Rhondda, if I'm allowed to jump in here and add my two cents worth; first and foremost, I'm a hardcore DOS user. Never could understand the GUI world. How could looking at a bunch of pictures, pointing N clicking be easier. Sometime I couldn't tell just what the heck that icon was suppose to be or represent. Plus, it's slower than DOS and placing files all over the HD. I'll pass!! Nothing more important to a DOS user, than their HD and the space available. Ergo, the newer version, Qmodem Pro is a disk hogg.... takes up way to much space and from what I can remember, when I saw it in operation; the only neat thing was, you can select in the phone directory to call certain numbers on one day and different numbers another day by making a file(more HD space wasted) then tag it and press "enter". IMHO, this can be done in Qmodem v5.0, you just have to selectively tag the ones you wish to call each time you enter Qmodem. (to me, so what) It also had "RIP", but I'm a user that's not impressed with pictures and fonts. If I wanted that, I'd look at a magazine. If you are a user, like I am, I simple log on to a BBS, D/L msgs and log off. Takes about a minute total. Can't see spending the extra $$$$ for features I consider useless and a waist of HD space. BTW, I only have a 130 Meg HD, so I'm very selective on what programs I keep on the HD. I hope I was able to answer some of your questions about Qmodem Pro. Ed ... I know that I usually have the same impression as you when I read such messages. I'm afraid that I will just have to let you sit with your impression. I will advise him to contact MSI. Currently, he does not care about the problem too much. I was trying to work out the problem using his system because, if I can, then I will consider purchasing QM myself. I'm not sure it's worth me purchasing the manuals for him though (and I'm sure the company would charge a replacement fee). He just doesn't care enough! If I were to buy QMP myself, I would like to resolve that technical problem first, and also find out about the issues regarding getting a DOS version. If I were to buy, I would want the DOS version, but I would not want to pay a hefty price to use another platform's version as well (Windoze '95 for example). EK> Rhondda, if I'm allowed to jump in here and add my two cents worth; EK> first and foremost, I'm a hard core DOS user. As you might have noticed, so am I. But I like the macro touch, so instead of pure dos commands, I cheat by using Norton commander. I hate windows for the same reasons you stated and more. The nice thing about QMP153 is that they can still be run under Win95, in other words if you have Win95 or any other windows, you do not need a Win ver of QMP to use QMP. Now all that is needed for dos users to do it to convince ALL dos programmers there is still a market for dos programs. Mustang will continue to upgrade QMP-dos if it looks like their will be a market. That means that not only do they want to recoup their investment, but mae a sizable profit. So we dos users must continue to PUSH ALL dos based programs or people like Bill Gates will push us out of DOS forever. To do this, we have to convince dos makers like MSI there IS a market. I have already lost a Dos based maker for a program and that is Norton Commander, their V4.0 is the last it is now discontinued in the dos mode. :(( Lyle M. Taylor - Rapid City, So.
