Hello, I use QmPro 1.53 for Dos. Sometimes I help a friend to set up a modem once in a while. I found a program I can use in a batch file that will count rings of the phone rings and act depending on the number of rings. It can start my Host mode, or fax receive, or send a fax. The problem is it is undependable. It locks up sometimes, and sometimes not. I'd hate to be at another computer and "depend" on this thing working just to have it lock up on me. And with no one home to reset my system I'd be screwed. What I want is: To be able to start QmPro, execute a script (I can do this), and have the script detect a phone ring and act depending on the phone rings it detects. Can this be done? Or: Find a program that works. The one that locks up is Remctl.52.zip. I have dl'ed other programs that you can use for remote operation, but all I want is to act on the ring count. Like, call from a remote computer, ring the phone once, it starts Qmpro Host, that type of thing. Or: Any suggestions... Also, I could use a Debug script that will create a program that will execute a Cold Boot. I have one for Warm Boot. I downloaded the file, but really don't see the difference. :( The old Qmodem Pro for windows runs as fast as my modem will let it so the only obvious difference would be how fast the menu screens come up while you're offline. This is the problem: The Modem (USR Sportster 28.8k) would dial and attempt to connect but never showed any connection (characters on my screen). (everything worked fine w/ old windows (3.1) version type comm programs) After learning about the Registry in Win 95 and reinstalling my modem 3 times (and win95 communication paks 2 times) it finally came to me... I turned off the GRAPHICS ACCELERATION setup in win95. That fixed it.... Incase you have the same problem this is what my system contains: 1 UsRobotics 28.8 Sporster Modem (internal) 1 Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM (not the VIDEO board) (VLB version) and all the rest is standard non-interferring hardware. Now the question for some of you out there... Is there a way to fix (maybe exclude some part of memory), so that I can turn on the VIDEO ACCELARTION setting on win 95 to all the way up, and not interfere w/ my modem???? I haven't seen much difference in speed yet (graphics wise), but I'll be testing it next... (I want it all graphics speed as well as fast x-fers) --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.11 * Origin: The General BBS (1:202/205.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 248 QMODEM USER Ref: CDE00044 Date: 09/06/95 From: DAVID HOLLAND Time: 09:51am \/To: BOB RICHARDS (Read 7 times) Subj: Does Anyone Live In This FH>In a message to Fred Hall, David Holland said: FH>DH>Are you clicking on the upload icon and selecting the appropriate file FH>DH>to upload and send to the system? The program WON'T UPLOAD AT ALL!!! BR> ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Just me again. Wasn't aware that there was a test drive version of Qmodem Pro for Windows. Hmmm. What version are you using? What version of windows? I would try exiting to DOS and using another comm program, a DOS program, and see if you still have the same problem. At least that's what I'd do. That would let me know if I had a problem with my modem or not. The fact that it has happened on eight different systems with different software would indicate that the problem is with your system. When I wrote you last I didn't have that information, so I wrote in haste. If there was a problem with the modem, both comm programs wouldn't upload, I'd check with the manufacture of the modem. Some, or most, modems have some self diagnostic routines that they can run to help you isolate the problem. If everything works with the DOS program, then the problem is with Qmodem Pro for Windows. That you are using a test drive is suspect. You might try to reinstall it. I'm curious as to what brand of modem you are using also. If it is a 14.4 v.32bis you can try the following. Type AT&F . That will restore the modem to its original settings. If you modem has NVRAM, you can type AT&F&W1 . That will write the settings to the NVRAM location one. There are two locations, 0 and 1. When you type ATZ that is the same as ATZ0. In your initialization string, change it from ATZ to ATZ1. See if that helps also. I had that problem where my downloads where half the speed of my uploads. Problem arose in trying different quick configuration settings. So that's what I did and now I'm back to about 110% of connect on my transfers.
