I love 1.52, but if AB>the newer is better, I might get it! Whaddaya mean might? Look for a file called QMPRO153.ZIP (or similar) for a free download from many BBSs (or MSI's own BBS). It's a free upgrade to 1.53, with mostly bug fixes. It includes an update for the OLX bundled with it, too. The following is from the README file in that package: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This file contains changes made in QmodemPro/OLX since v1.0 in reverse chronological order, QmodemPro v1.53 - Changed the port assignment numbers for DigiBoard cards to reference COM1 as PORT 0, COM2 as PORT 1, etc. This change was made to have our references match those given by DigiBoard and Wildcat!. - QmodemPro will now display an actual error message instead of a number when the disk is full. - Fixed a longstanding problem where QmodemPro would not go into RIP mode and reported the wrong error condition. If we fail to go into RIP mode the proper error message will now appear. - Fixed a problem with printing support in VT emulations. Printer was being opened and closed each time it was accessed. This caused the network printer support on Novell to eject a page for each character. - Changed Zmodem to include support for escaping all control characters. This should fix the problems with using Zmodem on Delphi and any other systems that request escaping. - Changed the way the RIP RestoreMouseFields works. It used to redraw the buttons all the time. Now it skips the drawing of the graphics. - VT Emulation colors have been fixed. If Strict Color is set, then real VT Colors are used. Otherwise, it works exactly like 1.52 did and will reference the colors defined in the custom color config. - Fixed a sporadic 201 error when doing uploads. - Fixed numerous minor ANSI and VT emulation bugs. Added support for scrolling regions to ANSI. - Fixed the RIP $RESET$ command. Would cause an infinite loop and hang the system under some conditions. - Fixed a problem with the NACS init code. It could only allocate the first port that matched the the Server General and Specific parameters. It now searches the wildcat matches thoroughly until a match is found or it runs out of possibilities. QmGate - Fixed a problem with receiving long text messages from MCI and CIS. It would generate 214 errors (collection overflow) if the message exceeded something like 16000 lines. Now, it splits long messages at around 1000 lines each. - Increased the number of sections supported in a single forum to 26. - Various minor adjustments for better performance. OLX - Fixed a problem with @READ so it won't look like it locked up with some long files - Changed @READ so it accepts wildcards like *.msg. - Changed carbon copy processing so it uses the correct 'From' name on each message. Also changed New message code so if a message is written outside of any packet context, then the correct From name is used. - Fixed a problem with creating REP files with the internal zipper if there wasn't enough memory available. OLX will now automatically invoke the external zipper if the internal one fails. - Added support for internal PKZIP 2.0 decompression. - Added the ability to export messages with no lines (empty messages) to the REP file properly. This is for use with file requests to a Wildcat! system where the request is in the Subject field. - Fixed apostrophes and possessives in the spell checker. - Added support for PCBoard style " @FROM" header lines. Describe the symptoms of the download problems and we'll see what we can do. First things to look for: - Are you switching to another program while downloading? I've heard many horror stories about that, so I don't even try. - Do you have so many other programs started that you may have a memory full condition? - Do you run QMPro in a window? I use it full-screen. I used to use it in a window. The screen updates were kind of jerky (i.e., the upload progress box would update every third or fourth block of data), but the files always transferred successfully. * QMPro 1.53 * Help! You sound pretty desperate. I'm not an expert in Qmodem, but it looks like you have a problem with your initialization string. the ATZ^M tells it to use the last string, in my USRobotics it's stored in the modem itself. You might want to set up a new modem program something that has an auto set up and has YOUR EXACT MODEM. Then when it sets up the string you can go back to Qmodem and see if it works. I did it with my modem a couple of times. If you've been playing with settings there should be a command or a dip switch setting to restore the factory defaults. Hmmm let's see, I'm trying to cover all the bases. Has the modem worked for you before? The original modem that came with my computer wasn't set up right from the place i bought it, i had an IRQ-COM conflict. The IRQ was set for com 1 and the COM setting was for com 2. I could connect and know it, but i was blind, what i typed went through but i couldn't get and echo back. I'll look up the initialization string for you if you want, but you should have it somewhere. I hope I could help a bit. :-) The frustrating thing about a modem/telecommunications problem is that you can't get on a bulletin board to ask for help good luck bruce ...
