Barry, check what is installed in your configuration for the Hangup Command. Unless you have changed it by accident, it should be the three letters DTR -- you can check it this way: Bring up QmodemPro with no dial directory showing. Type Alt-Z Type C Type D choose the device you want to check by moving with arrow keys. Type Alt-C Look at Hangup -- it should show DTR -- if not fix it. Hit carriage return and escape your way back to beginning. Leave QmproPro and bring it up again and test it. I run QModem Pro v1.53 full screen in Win95, with no special settings, no PIF, no nothing. While I do uploads or downloads I run it in either a smaller screen or send it to the background. When the file transfer is complete, I click the QM Pro icon on the task bar at the bottom of the screen (no Alt+tab or task manager necessary) and I'm back to business. I have run Word for Windows, graphics programs and run print jobs simultaneously with QM Pro. I have a rather lame 486 DX33 with 8 megs and have had perfect performance with no botched file transfers. RIP graphics and Host mode works with QM Pro under Win95. It's the best $90 investment I've made for my machine, save perhaps the memory upgrade. --- * OLXWin 1.00a * hAS ANYONE SEEN MY cAPSLOCK KEY? * Origin: Grey Matter : (206) 528-1941 (1:343/210) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 248 QMODEM USER Ref: CDE00013 Date: 09/02/95 From: SEAN O'CONNELL Time: 04:48pm \/To: BOB RICHARDS (Read 7 times) Subj: QmodemPro for Windows-NEE BR>Hi, BR>I test driving QMPro for Windows, and I've got a major problem that's BR>got me completely stumped. It took me the better part of a year after I bought my first computer before I could really figure out what was going on, or even understand enough to ask the right questions. That said, I NOT an expert but I can give a few suggestions: 1) Make sure your upload protocol is the same as the board's file transfer protocol. Log on to the board and select Zmodem. Make sure you're using Zmodem. 2) Go to Control Panel and select Port settings and use the following settings: Baud Rate 19200 Data Bits 8 Parity None Stop Bits 1 Flow Control Hardware Click on OK before exiting. 3) Edit your System.ini file in the c:\Windows directory under the [386enh] section as follows: Make sure the COMxFIFO= line =1. If it says =0 change it to: COMxFIFO=1. The "x" is your COM port. Mine reads COM1FIFO=1 because my modem is on COM 1 and I want the 16k buffer mode to be enabled on the UART chip ( the =1 part). 4) Speaking of: do you have a 16550 UART? If you have an external modem you should have it plugged in to a high speed serial port in you machine that has this chip, or a high quality modem (I know Hayes are high quality) that has one on board. Run MSD in DOS to find out if you have this chip, or check the modems documentation. 5) Make sure you are using a high speed communications driver. the driver that comes with Windows 3x is inadequate and does not support high speed modems. Go to the [Boot] section of the aforementioned System.ini file and look at the line comm.drv=. If it reads comm.drv=comm.drv you should replace the comm.drv file with a newer, high speed driver. They are available as shareware (some are freeware). WinFax Pro from Delrina automatically replaces the Windows comm.drv driver with its own high speed driver (wfxcomm.drv). The file comm.drv is in C:\windows\system directory and is about 10k in size (I think). Hope this stuff helps. If you still have problems, check back in.
