In other words, lets say I call a bbs and download a file, then when comes down to choosing a protocol which do I choose if the bbs does not have Vfast? Or I can't use it at all unless both sides have it? Any help is appreciated. How does that work? DS>No version of Qmodem or Qmpro has the OLX 'built in'. But QmPro for DOS >'comes with' OLX the offline mail reader. In the Windows version of >OLX, it is sold separately. From the home screen in Qmodem Pro for DOS (version 1.5), OLX is called up by hitting an ALT M. One can also run OLX as a stand alone program by changing to the \QMPRO\OLX directory and typing OLX. Since OLX can be hot-keyed from inside QMPRO and since OLX is included in the Qmodem Pro software, I would say YES, THE OFF-LINE READER IS BUILT IN. --- * QMPro 1.53 * Misspelled? Impossible. Why are you trying to forward mail to someone on the same bbs??? Does he not also get the same mail you do??? If he's not downloading it, he most likely reads mail online like some others do who are not used to reading offline or don't have a utility yet to do this. If you want to forward a message, put it in a different conference (look at where the reply to person is and just below that it shows conference) but gotta warn ya, most conferences don't allow forwarding of messages from another conference unless you have the moderator of that conference's permission to do so (not to mention the cost to sysops carrying you're duplicate message when it wasn't necessary). If your friend doesn't read that conference, just send him a new message in another conference and tell him to check out message dated ******* in the ******** conference by ******* (but probably not necessary as he should be reading it too). --- * QMPro 1.53 * ------*=S#The Police Station 615-226-7841#S=*------ --- QScan/WC v1.17b / 01-0550 * Origin: The Police Station BBS * Nashville, TN * 615-226-7841 (1:116/6) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 248 QMODEM USER Ref: CBB00008 Date: 07/04/95 From: CHARLES DOBBS Time: 10:01am \/To: GLEN HUNTER (Read 8 times) Subj: CRC errors GH:>I am using QMPRO 1.51 and a USR 28800 VE modem and I get a lot of CRC GH:>errors when I D/L but none when I U/L. So I get around it this way. 1. Create a batch file to use with HSLINK. Here is a copy of mine. (If you have QMODEM and not Pro, be sure to change the names below appropriately.) @ECHO OFF CD\QMPRO\HSLINK hslink -@hslink.cfg @C:\QMPRO\QMPRO.BEW CD\QMPRO DEL QMPRO.BEW (I will assume you already have HSLINK.CFG created by running the HCONFIG.EXE.) 2. Run Qmodem. ALT-J and select a key combination of your choice. I use mine rather frequently, so I chose Shift-F1. This is totally up to you. In the blank, enter the following command. SHELLX C:\QMODEM\HSLINK.BAT Now when you hit the key combination while online, Qmodem will shell out and run this batch file. Make sure your paths and filename match the ones you just created. 3. Setting up for HSLINK. Before you dial in, hit ALT-6 and pick the files you want to u/l. Be sure to clear all filenames before hand, and save all the new ones. Qmodem creates a text file named QMODEM.BEW with all the paths and filenames to the files you've just picked. After you've pick the files, you might want to ALT-R and see if that file is actually out there. And even view it if you like. a. Dial in, and once connected, head for the file area. DON'T UPLOAD ANYTHING ELSE PRIOR TO SENDING YOUR FILES. Even if you bypass the batch upload window, and type the name in manually, Qmodem WILL OVERWRITE THE PICK LIST you've just created offline. b. I seldom only uploaded. There was always something new I wanted to d/l. So I would start the d/l of the files I wanted, and when I started HSLINK, the files would be transferred automatically. (But even if you don't, this will still work. But some BBS' expect you to enter the filenames and descriptions beforehand, so keep this in mind. Even if I had to d/l the ALLFILES list or something small, just to by-pass this type of aggregation, I would do it. Anyway, when the BBS exits to start HSLINK, just hit you key combination you defined earlier, and sit back and watch. For QmPro, this is even easier. Still create the batch file above, but put the HSLINK in the external protocol section. Under d/l and u/l put HSLINK. (No extension. BAT file is assumed.) For autostart I have HS*. <-No period. No function key combination is necessary. Once the BBS exit to run HSLINK, HSLINK will autostart. THAT IS REAL NEAT! NOTES I always deleted the QMODEM.BEW file afterwards to prevent a second u/l by mistake. I could always go back right quick and retag the files again as opposed to sitting through another u/l. QmPro has a bad habit of scrambling the QMPRO.BEW file. If you u/l fails, examine it quickly. If it is scrambled, Clear All and SAVE. Hit ALT-6 once again and repick the files. I have not found out the reason behind this. --- * Origin: * Mississippi Online * 601-356-9032 * 28.8 * (1:361/205)
