This recently came up in the status line at the bottom of my display where the "online" message usually is. I was logged on to a bbs, this message appeared, and my keyboard stopped responding. I waited for a time but the "online" message never reappeared. I finally was able to quit the board with the "Alt H" command. I am using QMPRO for dos. If, when you're in terminal mode, and you enter AT, and you don't get a response, then the computer is not communicating with the modem. (regardless of the ECHO setting) Double check the Comm address and interrupt. If you're running it through Windows, you'll have to be sure there is no irq (interrupt) conflict. --- Olms 2.0 [PKMAI4AP] * Origin: * Mississippi Online * 601-356-9032 * 28.8 * (1:361/205) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 248 QMODEM USER Ref: C5H00003 Date: 05/11/95 From: RUSS DERRY Time: 03:38am \/To: ALL (Read 10 times) Subj: Entering msg I am using qm 460td, w/olx-td. David, This was a strange case! I have diagnostic software that indicated the modem was working from COM4. It would even dial out to a test number provided with the software. Qmodem just refused to recognize it on COM4, 02E8, IRQ3 , but when we changed it to COM2, 02F8, IRQ3, everything cleared up and it worked beautifully. Computer programs and modems are strange people. TG>BUT, I get the impression that the Windows version has MORE features and TG>better looks. TG>HELP!, I would like your opinion(s). Well, both have RIP and both send and receive faxes. Dos allows for external protocols, Windows doesn't. Windows has a fax manager, Dos doesn't. System groups set up in Dos remain intact, Windows doesn't. Windows merges multiple phone directories and allows for copying between them, Dos doesn't. Dos highlights systems with mail either coming in or going out, Windows doesn't. Windows allows for macro keys to send handle and password, Dos doesn't. I could go on. I run windows, so I've accepted the Windows version and am making the best of it. I should point out that I tried Telix for Windows and it kept causing general protection errors, so I feel that Qmodem for Windows is the best I've came across for windows. I miss the feature of having the systems with mail to go being marked since posting messages has become the main reason I call systems. I have all the programs I need. I thing that if you mainly run Dos, I would go with the Dos version. It comes with OLX. Windows doesn't. I hope that helps a little. --- * QMPro 1.53 * Press "+" to see another tagline. --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.11 * Origin: CDS#2 BIG BOARD, 810-548-7078 (1:120/999.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 248 QMODEM USER Ref: C5L00001 Date: 05/16/95 From: CRAIG PEASE Time: 03:06am \/To: ALL (Read 11 times) Subj: Command Running QMPRO 1.53 for DOS and looking for a good Upload & Download command to add for HSLINK. I have known serial cards, even though their second port UART and support chips are not physically installed, to still cause interference with another hardware device trying to use the same address. What I've done in the past is assume that the non-existent port is alive, and either re-addressed it, or used a different address. Reading what you said, sounds like you ran into a similar situation. .....Bob --- GE 1.11+ / IM 2.29c * Origin: From the Keyboard of the Echo Moderator (1:140/12.1)
