Heh, you're not telling me anything I want to know! =) I'd probably be more interested in Hot Rod, but as you said, that's dead too. Just an odd side note...Are you familiar with who John Carmack is? He is the owner of ID Games, they own the Doom series, Quake series, etc. He's a car enthusiast. He jsut bought a Ferrari F50, he likes it more than his F40. I haven't taken the top off the F50 yet, though (its supposed to be a 40 minute job...). Adjustable front suspension. Press a button and it raises two inches, which means you can actually drive it up into strip malls. The F40 had to be driven into my garage at an angle to keep the front from rubbing. This makes the car actually fairly practical for daily driving. Drastically better off idle torque. You have to rev the F40 a fair amount to even get it moving, and if you are moving at 2000 rpm in first gear, a honda can pull away from you until it starts making boost at 3500 rpm. The f50 has enough torque that you don't even need to rev to get moving, and it goes quite well by just flooring it after you are moving. No need to wreck a clutch by slipping it out from 4000 rpm. Much nicer clutch. The F40 clutch was a very low-tech single disk clutch that required more effort than on my crazy TR with over twice the torque. Better rearward visibility. The F40's lexan fastback made everything to your rear a blur. Better shifting. A much smoother six speed than the F40's five speed. Better suspension. Some bumps that would upset the F40 badly are handled without any problems. Better aerodynamics. A flat underbody with tunnels is a good thing if you are going to be moving at very high speeds. I beleive the F50 could probably lap a road coarse faster than the F40, but in a straight line, the F40 is faster. The F50 felt a fair amount slower, but I was chalking that up to the lack of non-linear turbo rush. Today I drove it down to the dyno and we got real numbers. It only made 385 hp at the rear wheels, which is maybe 450 at the crank if you are being generous. The F40 made 415, but that was with the boost cranked up a bit over stock. We're going to have to do something about that. I'm thinking that a mild twin-turbo job will do the trick. Six pounds of boost should get it up to a health 500 hp at the rear wheels, which will keep me happy. I don't want to turn it into a science project like my TR, I just want to make sure it is well out of the range of any normal cars. I may put that in line after my GTO gets finished. --------------------------------------------------------------------- I can't find the letter about his GTO that he is fabricating. Full Carbon Fiber body, "one-off" engine. He is having someone build a 60 valve V12 from scratch. I'll try to find the post. Jason Wedehase strife66@Psynet.net http://www.Psynet.net/strife66 ... So many of the LT1 owners are ripping the LS1 cars and its completely stupid. My friend from Canada ran his '98 Formula with 500 miles on it. The shifter is still to stuff etc, and he still got a 13.6 out of it! He is going back tommorow (Sat) and he says he thinks he will get 13.3-13.4s for sure! So I have the K&N, exhaust, and drag radials and he will be a few ticks ahead of me on a 100% stock car, stock rubber! We won't even bring up the Cobras :-) The average well driven LS1 FBody 6 speed takes the average well driven Cobra by about .5 in the 1/4 mile now, and thats about 4 car lengths in a street race I think. --- * OLX 2.1 TD * This place is Joyous Gard! Except TW>when Highly modified of course. First of all Tom, most C5s dyno with about 300 horsepower, at the rear wheels. GM, like everyone else, rates the C5 'Vette horsepower at the fly wheel, not the rear wheels. It is widely accept that 15-17% of horsepower is lost through the drivetrain on its way to the drive wheels. Lets just use 15% for the C5 Vette. A 15% loss through the drivetrain would indicate the C5 Vette does in fact have 345 horsepower at the crank, which is what is advertised. Nothing is misleading there at all. However, it seems the FBodies are overrated. The FBodies are rated at 305 horsepower, meaning they should have about 260-265 at the rear wheels. In fact, they have 290+, some have had over 300. So, its not that the C5s are underrated, the FBodies are overrated. It should also be noted that the C5's 172mph top speed indicates a true 345 flywheel horsepower. --- * OLX 2.1 TD * This planet wholly owned and operated by BLAES INC. --- WILDMAIL!/WC v4.12 * Origin: Fresh Start BBS * Edison NJ * (732) 248-1678 * (1:107/310.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F5G00100 Date: 05/01/98 From: KENNY HENDERSON Time: 02:37pm \/To: JOHN PUMMILL (Read 0 times) Subj: TCC Lockup JP>KH> Those SZ50s are friggin' awesome! 2 weeks ago I lined up JP>KH> with a '95 JP>KH> Camaro Z28 at a redlight. I got ired JP>of the quarter mile, there are just so many passes you can make in a JP>straight line before you get bored with it. By the way....had a little fun with an Acura NSX last week. We ran 3 times from a 70mph punch....Each time he nailed it 1st, and I was able to reel him in slowly. My car is definately faster, but by no means did I 'kill him.' All 3 were good races. The 4th time, we were going a bit slower, about 60mph which allowed me to catch 2nd gear. I pulled him pretty good that time, as I should since 60mph puts me right in the sweet spot of my 2nd gear. I have had a few good races lately. I took a newer RX7 from a 15mph roll without too much of a problem. He was about 2 car lengths back by about 70-75 mph. I ran with an '85 or '86 Mustang GT (not stock) and I couldn't pull him at all on the highway. I'm not sure what he had done, but that GT ran pretty well on the highway. And I spanked a Fox body Mustang GT convertible on the highway. He was more interested in cutting people off and revving his engine at me in traffic. When the traffic cleared and we ran, all he saw was taillights :-) Oh, and I got severely outhandled by a BMW 3 series again! haha! I was going through this long sweeping turn that gets sharper, and he was probably about 3 or 4 car lengths behind me. I went about as fast as I could through the turn, the car felt like it was at the limits. The BMW made up those 3 or 4 car lengths through the turn, and when we finished he was right on my butt! damn! :-) I am doing fine now. I have been quite busy with school and work. My back got messed up, I had to goto the Dr and take it easy for about a week....Other then that everything is fine though :-) aJP>KH> By the way, I know a few people with the new '98 FBodies JP>KH> with the LS1.
