Yes, the odds are against you if you collide with something bigger and heavier! I use the Sprint for jaunts around town and quiet country roads. Not on the freeway. I do recall, though, many years back, when the 401 in the Thousand Islands area had a two lane stretch, seeing a head-on collision between an Austin Mini and a full-size Chevy station wagon. The three occupants of the wagon died, the two in the Mini survived. JD> How could she give up the ragtop? RT> She didn't, the newer one is the convertible... Ah, my mistake, I thought it was the other way around! I'm jealous, lucky her to have a newer one! I think they've been out of production for several years now. Last new ragtop I saw advertised was $14,995 whereas new coupes _now_ sell for $9,995 here. --- Everything/2 * Origin: Tiny's BBS - Inet: tinys.oix.com / On,Canada (1:229/600) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F4300004 Date: 03/30/98 From: JAN DEBOER Time: 02:46pm \/To: GARY HALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Timing belt lifespan? Gee, just about all the British car companies are being bought by Non-English car manufacturers. Like Jaguar is now owned by FURD, now this one. Well, this one _could_ apply to some part of automobiles, but not likely. Hoping it is ok, here goes... One of my bikes has a dented fuel tank. It is a "dish" in the top of the tank with a crease down the center. Diameter of the "dish" is about four inches, depth is maybe an inch. The blow that caused the dent was a scraping blow from a hard object, causing a scratch and a crease across diameter of the dish. I've considered several approaches to getting the dent out. The alternatives range from cutting the dent out and welding in a new piece (extreme), to drilling holes and pulling the dent out with a slide hammer. I understand that some body shops can seal the tank and apply enough air pressure to blow the dent out. A really sloppy approach is to fill the dent with Bondo and paint over it. This weekend a buddy suggested filling the tank with water and freezing it. Theoretically, when the water expands, it will force the dent out. Sounds plausible, simple, painless, and by far the easiest. The only danger I see is the possibility of the tank bulging in the wrong place. What are your thoughts?? Pro or con... Now is that luck or what? I drove (20 miles) into town the other day and parked - came out to a battery so dead that the radio wouldn't even work... Carried the battery 3 blocks to the Ford dealership (closest place) who informed me that it had an internal short and was scrap. $135 later I hauled it back to the truck (Ford F150 6) started it up and went home. Went to move it the next morning and got click.. click.. After a bit of solonoid bypassing have pretty much decided that the (one year old) starter motor is fried. I am currently parked a mile from the house (reasons I won't bore you with) and a half mile from any building or source of electricity and it hasn't stopped pouring rain for 2 days with a possible 4 more to come...
