If you pull out your insurance policy, you will ore #than likely find out that you are required to report ALL accidents, no matter #who is at fault. Your insurance company is insuring your vehicle, and if tha #vehicle is someone unsafe, they should know about it, to protect YOU. If you #aren't in a "no fault" state, your company won't raise your rates as a result #of an accident, unless you were at fault. Your rates shouldn't go up regardless of whether it's a 'no fault' area or not if the accident wasn't your fault - we have that here as well and my current situation is that because I have lots of years accident free, I could have up to 3 without my rates increasing. That said... your insurance company wants you reporting ALL accidents to prevent you fixing them under the table and hiding 'bad drivers' from their attention. JW# A friend used to have a '77 El Camino with a 350 that had a #pretty decent cam. He went to smog it, with all the smog devices #installed, and couldn't even get anywhere NEAR passing. More accurately they are designed to work under exacting conditions and if you start trading parts or adding devices to engines not designed to use them you will quite probably not get the best results. Sometimes doing things that look like they will do one thing do another. I had a '66 Chevelle SS with a factory installed (leftover?) '65 Ralley Corvette 327 with fuelly heads. It had neen worked on a bit but the engine never taken down. Holley 830 and Edelbrock spider from a Z-28. (Up from stock 375hp to about 425) I was getting about 13.2 second ET's at about 125 mph (Hurst 4 speed & 3:83 rear gears) and about 10 mpg. I decided to do it up a bit more and had it rebuilt with a higher lift cam, 8" intake manifold, solid lifters and 12.5/1 pistons. Ended up (tested on a dyno) with 575 hp when it was done. (Also 425 FtLb of torque. 327's automatically make horsepower so I told them to ignore horsepower and choose parts primarily for torque. Cars were heavier back then - mid size 3700 lbs.) Got 11.7 quarter miles at 155 mph with 4:11 gears and, the surprise of the day, now 16 mpg - a 60% increase in fuel economy where I was expecting a drop. On the down side I had to find 104 octane gas for it to run smoothly. On my 1980 F-150 with a 351M, it was a VERY SIGNIFIGANT result. The truck lost a little bit of bottom end (wouldn't SMOKE the tires, just screeched them *smile*), but gained loads of power above 2000 RPM. Keep in mind this truck has a SINGLE 2.25" exhaust from the factory, and had a partially clogged catalytic convertor at the time. I still have the truck, though I drive it 3-4 times a month now. Probably going to sell it for parts soon, since it'll cost more than it's worth to make it safe to drive again (complete brake system and every emissions component needs to be replaced, plus the transmission).
