KH> (John, Jason, Roy, Alan?) I think they are just a waste of money, You can make a better performance plug by filing the ground electrode on a standard plug back away from the center electrode, essentially exposing the center. This is said to "open the flame path" from the generated spark to the fuel mixture. Before there were hot electronic ignitions, this worked pretty damn good. I don't know what effect, if any, it would have with todays hot boxes... Although I never used them, Champion used to make plugs with a replacement ground electrode that was actually a pin held at a right angle to the center electrode. It's been many moons since I've seen one... Both of these methods exposed the spark to the fuel misture. And practically all of the plug manufacturers made something similar. When I went racing with my Vette, I used to shim the plugs so that the ground electrode was at the top of the combustion chamber. This allowed the flame front to go down the cylinder instead of across the chamber. You can tell how they're pointing by using a felt tip marker and marking the insulator in line with the ground electrode. I think they may still make shims today, even for taper seat plugs. I don't know if this helped the performance or not, since I was always doing something to make it different. It worked without a hitch, so I kept on doing it. KH> I have autolite platinums and they seem to be fine. I use those too. They're good for the street, don't know about racing. ...
