AG> We have 8 pints to a gallon. Two pints is a quart (Quarter of AG> a gallon) One pint is 20 ounces. The Imperial Gallon is also used in Canada I believe. The difference is that a pint US is 16 ounces, not 20. There's 2 US pints to a quart and 4 quarts to a gallon. That means there's 5 US quarts in each English gallon, US gallon=80% English gallon. AG> What you call a 'quart' of whiskey is actually 26 ounces - AG> nowhere near a quart (dont trust those liquor dealers - or No, what you are refering to is a "fifth", or 1/5 of a US Gallon. A fifth is not a quart, never was, that size only exists in liquor and originally exists to get around a tax levy. What probably confuses you about a fifth is that a US quart is a fifth of an English Gallon, but, that ratio has nothing to do with what a "fifth" is. --- * Origin: DESQview MODERATOR, mitch@magsystems.com (1:2604/539.11) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F2S00019 Date: 02/22/98 From: JAN DEBOER Time: 01:31pm \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Shadow diagnosis I made a short freeway run in my 1988 Dodge Shadow, 2.2L auto, TBI, with 78K kilometers on the clock. When I exited, at the first stop the idle was _VERY_ rough, it being necessary to shift into neutral and press the accelerator to keep it running. At my destination, I checked underhood, but nothing visibly wrong. I did buy some gasline antifreeze, and poured the contents of 3 small containers into the tank. On heading home, the lumpy, uneven idle was still there, but once I got on the freeway it ran fine at 100-110 kilometers per hour. I engaged cruise control, and after a while noticed it was surging slightly, not enough to affect the indicated speed, but I could feel it. Then, suddenly, the car started slowing, and the cruise control would not re-engage. The car continued just fine when I pressed the accelerator. When I exited the freeway, the rough idle problem was now gone, but the cruise control would still not engage. The speed sensor can't be at fault, because the speedometer still registered. According to a former owner of this vehicle, idle problems are not new, the engine control computer having been replaced more than once by Chrysler dealer in attempting to rectify the problem. As well, receipts in glove box indicate prior problems with cruise control. After buying this vehicle, I sorted out several faults, all of them obviously caused by sheer incompetence, and then drove it all winter with no problems. Air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, all replaced within last 2K. Wires, cap & rotor probably original. My 1989 Dodge Shadow 2.5 L has 129,000 kilometers on the clock, with the original engine timing belt. It is a non-interference engine, so a broken belt isn't going to damage anything, but I don't like the idea of possibly finding myself stranded somewhere. The belt isn't that costly, but repalcing it is not a trivial job, so I'm hoping to put it off until warmer weather. There is no recommended replacement interval mentioned in the manual or the shop manual. I was in the left lane going through an intersection, (no left turn lane, the left lane can either turn or go straight) Just as I enter the intersection to proceed straight through the intersection, a car on my right tries to make a left turn from the right lane. She rams my passenger door, along with raking the entire right side. The police came out and she admitted to them that she was at fault. I have not had so much as a parking ticket in the last 20 yrs, my last claim was maybe 10 yrs ago for a tow when the car would not start. Given this info, and the fact the accident was not my fault, will my rates go up as a result of this claim? Where did you read that?? Right from Chrysler's website, months ago. You might try obtaining a brochure from your local Plymouth dealer too. AM> According to PM Car Buyers Guide it comes with the same 214 HP V6 AM> as the old Dodge Intrepid. I don't know where PM got that info from? AFAIK, even the original concept vehicle had intentions of a high output V6. It'd be a shame if readers of PM were misled. Because, that engine I quoted, apparently is what is in the Prowler. Although at this point, it may be worthwhile noting, that it has been common practice for Chrysler to offer a high-performance version, as well as a low-key version. As for performance numbers, what I've given you above in my previous reply, plus this that now follows, (in case you don't have internet access), is all I've been able to get so far: "It has an aluminum block with a forged steel crank bedded in four main bearings. The heads, pistons and full-floating wrist pins are aluminum. It's been dressed up and a less restrictive air cleaner; investment cast stainless steel exhaust manifolds that make tube-type headers look primitive, and linear cam EFI throttle bodies for a surprisingly quick, crisp response."
