I agree with you. The use of hand wrenches/torque wrenches and the application of proper lug torque values usually eliminates this as a possible cause of rotor warpage. RT> Oh yeah... most of the mileage is pulling a 5x8 Wells Cargo utility RT> trailer, about 1500 lbs gw. This could be a factor depending on how close to your maximum payload capacity your conversion package puts the van. Just because the van has a conversion package does not infer the presence of a seperate towing package, which would include Heavy Duty Brakes. Usually you get one or the other. RT> Second problem. Really a question... the disc pad bracket seems to be RT> loose on the same front right wheel... sometimes. On occasion, it What I don't see is when was the last time you had the wheel bearings replaced, or the calipers replaced. It's not enough to rebuild the old calipers because on a vehicle with your mileage, it's possible the piston bore has gotten out of specs. Oversized pistons might be available, but new calipers would e cheaper. I'm wondering if the "loose" pad is a case of improper pad install- ation or the piston may be damaged. Some cars/trucks have outer front brake pads with "ears" that have to be hammered down over the outside of the aliper to insure a correct fit. Failure to do this could lead to a chattering if the pad is able to move around a lot. Bad wheel bearings could also account for a slight warpage as the track of the rotor changes between the pads. RT> The pads and rotors are less than 10% used... rotors aren't even RT> scored yet (but shimmying away, nonetheless). Take the vehicle back to Mr. Goodwrench and have him check the wheel bearings and the front axles. Here's a list of recalls/TBS's that pertain to both the 305/350 CID C series vans for 1990. It's a lot shorter than the actual list, but these have the most immediate bearing on the front brake problem. Go over them with the service manager to se which ones would apply to your VIN code, and how they might solve your problem if at all. In the meantime I'll Netmail you the whole list. OTOH, With so many GM-biased publications out there, do you think there is enough pie left to carve out another GM niche magazine? MM&FF is at a point now where they have to give wider coverage to all types of Fox and SN95 cars. Just how many coupes with blowers can you show month after month before you have bored your readers to death. Let's face it, most of the strip 5.0's are all cut out of the same cookie cutter: Blower, Weld Draglites, cowl hood, and a red paint job. I enjoy the MM&FF articles when they show something different or original. They could slack off on the car stereo stuff...but they don't get into that too deep, too often. The tech articles are great. They make the other FoMoCo rags suck fumes. Reader's Cars....those I really like! :) I enjoy them because they are usually owned by people like you and I who have a budget and do mods as they can. Unlike some of the rides where Daddy Warbucks strolls into his local 5.0 tuner shop and turns over his keys and gives them a blank check. Maybe I'm jealous? Did you get you Eibach's on?
