RJT>Sounds to me like you're talking about the Cross Bronx Expressway, among o RJT>. I wouldn't say that a car had to be there for long at all, in spite f RJT>ay they looked. Maybe half an hour or so? :-) Well, yes the Cross Bronx was just one of the Expressways that I saw such cars on. When I say obvious - it was because there were some cardboard boxes partially stuck under the side of the cars having been blown there by the wind - some quite obviously water softened from rain - and it hadn't rained for quite some time. Speaking of the Cross Bronx - A few year back I was going to New England for the fall colors towing my 32 ft travel trailer. Had intended to take the freeways north on the west side of NYC and turn east after I got north of NYC in order to miss what I knew was the terrible afternoon rush traffic. I think it was the NJ turnpike - any how I was driving in the right hand land - after all I do not normally go faster than 55 towing. Got locked in that rt hand lane - NO ONE would give an inch to let me get out of an exit only lane: Ended up drossing the Hudson on the George Washington bridge, taking the Cross Bronx Freeway to get to New England. What a nightmare!!!! That road was terribly rough, pot holed, and bumper to bumper traffic!! Was I ever glad to get through NYC. In another post of yours regarding this same subject, you stated that you've driven in many other states, as well as Canada. Therefore, I'm reasonably sure that New York City wasn't the only city that you saw exhibiting this phenomena? ;) JE> Wonder why they were left there. Probably for the same reasons you'll find them abandoned on any road anywhere. They were stolen, broken down, involved in an accident, ect. JE> Some had obviously been there for some time. As you're probably well aware, if they've been abandoned, they have to be there at least 30 days before they can be legally removed. In some states, where the congestion of abandoned vehicles is a problem, a sticker might be placed on the vehicle alerting the driver that the vehicle will be removed within 24-48 hours. That of course depends on the availablity of manpower allocated to remove these vehicles, and the availablity to store them as well.
