(city and highway) I don't know when they do it, or how much of an effect it might have on this, but don't the oil companies change the blend of gas at different times of year? If they do, and it's significantly different, then perhaps that might account for some of that. EEC-IV and small V8 AT. About three weeks ago we were coming back from east Texas and all of a sudden the check engine light came on. Since the blasted light is in a blind spot on the dash I have no idea EXACTLY when it came on - just that I noticed driving down the highway. I have noticed NO difference in the performance nor in the gas mileage. Got close to 25 MPG driving 70+ with the AC on. I got the following KOEO codes with my scanner. 327, 215, 216. (For those unfamiliar with Ford codes - KOEO means Key on, Engine OFF) The info in my scanner book indicates 215 is Ignition system (distributorless) problem coil #1 primary side ckt fail and 216 is the same for coil #2. The book says 327 is EGR valve position (EVP) sensor, Pressure Feedback EGR (PFE) sensor or EGR Pressure Transducer (EPT) - signal voltage too low. Since there seemed to be no detectable performance changes I kept driving. After a couple days the check engine light QUIT coming on. I went to my Ford shop manuals to try to figure things out and then remembered, when I ordered them, they back ordered the diagnostic manual so I'm stumped without it. (It will be ordered Monday). Today the check engine light came on again - intermittently. Sometimes after stopping the engine and restarting (going into a store - etc.) it will not come on. Other times it will. Too blasted wet and chilly to see if the codes are the same or not. Battery in scanner is very low so might not be usable. The two sets of codes seem so different I'm leery of believing either. Any insight would be appreciated. Maybe tomorrow the weather will be more agreeable and I'll have a new battery. Blasted car only has 26000 miles on it, all very easy miles. ___ OLX 2.1 TD The spouse who snores louder always falls asleep first. --- RemoteAccess 2.50+ * Origin: Northern Lights! * San Antonio * 210-499-6299 V34/VFC (1:387/23) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F2200019 Date: 02/01/98 From: JOHN PUMMILL Time: 04:45pm \/To: JAY EMRIE (Read 0 times) Subj: Vehicle Confiscation JE> I have NEVER had a policeman give me a ticket because of a JE> malfunctioning light of ANY kind. HA> Thanks for any and all input. Should be a 2.5 inline 6. The 328 was a few years later. 92 still has to go in for the valve train adjustment as part of Inspection 2 service. (the lights in the dash tell you when to go in for service as determined by the style of driving you give the car) Mine is a 94 and has the hydrualic engine (first year). GREAT vehicle. It is the 325IS, two door 5 speed 2.5. My gas mileage on the interstate is in the low 30s at 70. I replaced the O2 sensor at 81,000 miles. I change the oil when the car tells me to and service it according to BMW's reccomendations although I do my own work. Before you buy the car check the service manual and make sure it has been serviced as specified. When you turn on the key there will be a section of the dash light up in the lower center. It will be either five (just serviced) green lights or less. It there are two yellow lights showing the car is due for service. (check the service manual to see if it is service 1 or service 2) At the top left of this area on the dash there is a section that will state Oil Service when it is time to have the oil changed. If there is no documentation with the car I would reccomend having service 2 and an oil change performed immediately. Around here service 2 runs about 350 bucks which includes tranny and rear end oil changed, brakes, and an overall inspection of the car. Mine has just over 84k on it and is as solid as the day it was built. --- FMail 0.94 * Origin: Running from the Klan in the Fiero (1:123/30) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F2200024 Date: 01/29/98 From: ALAN MORRISON Time: 07:15pm \/To: MARC GERGES (Read 0 times) Subj: Active Handling -=> Quoting Marc Gerges to Alan Morrison <=- AM> Here in the middle portions of the US you find a lesser contingent of AM> small imports, but 1.6-2.0 liters cars are plentiful. In the late sixties you saw a few Datsuns (Nissans), and Toyotas, but very few until 1973 when the Arab Oil Embargo caused gas rationing and some long lines at the pumps. The US had already started removing lead from gasoline, causing compression and corresponding power loss. The large cars with mediocre power started losing ground to the smaller cars of all kinds. We didn't have many truly efficient cars at the time, except the entry level types like Ford Pintos, Chevy Vegas, etc. This helped the small, cheap Japanese models get a foothold, and they were willing to dump models to gain market share. It worked... MG> Mmmmh... we don't have the Swift with a 3 cylinder engine. And to get MG> 34 mpg (I guess that's the city number, right?) you don't need to Right. MG> limit on that. A 90 hp turbo diesel engine will do finely. To get 49 MG> on the highway, though, you had to limit yourself to about 50 mph. I've never owned a diesel, although they became popular for a while until the cheap diesel fuel surpassed the price of regular gasoline. I seem to recall they typically got better mileage than a similar size gas engine version. The initial cost was a little higher and maintenance, perhaps, a little more critical. Most, who had always owned gasoline cars, didn't know about controlling algae, etc. and could be spotted by plumes of black smoke. There are still some around; mostly Mercedes and some VW or trucks from Mitsubishi, Ford, GM, and Chrysler. I was trying to figure out the MPG on the VW Jetta which comes with a gas 2.0 liter, gas 2.8 V6, or a diesel 1.9 liter. It shows the numbers as 18-40, and 24-49. I would guess the 24-49 would be the small diesel which is turbo/intercooled, and maybe similar to yours since it also shows 90 HP. --- Blue Wave/386 v2.20 [NR] * Origin: River Canyon Rd.
