It will only partially mask the problem. GH> 3 Some where down the line someone set it wrong, This happens surprisingly often. GH> It isn't uncommon to get seven to nine degrees retarded just from GH> gear and chain wear in as little as 60,000 miles. GH> The Imports mostly use tensioners on their chains to eliminate this, GH> but Detroit hasn't saw any need for it. Tensioners will NOT, do NOT, and can NOT eliminate the results of chain wear (stretch) with respect to timing - they can only prevent the chain from having too much slop - invaluable in overhead chain driven cams! Many foreign cars (Datsun/Nissan for example) have (or had) ADJUSTABLE cam shaft gears that will enable one to adjust the cam timing close to original specs to compensate for chain stretch. They also use tensioners to keep nearly proper tension on the chain even when stretched. There is a limit to this adjustment and to the tension correction ability of the tensioner. * OLX 2.1 TD * Yield for any vehicle larger than your own! --- RemoteAccess 2.50+ * Origin: Northern Lights! * San Antonio * 210-499-6299 V34/VFC (1:387/23) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1Q00010 Date: 01/20/98 From: BOB GRIFFITH Time: 11:43pm \/To: ROY WITT (Read 0 times) Subj: Vehicle Confiscation Having been involved in 2 seperate accidents with non-insured vehicles I can attest to the fact that the police should do all they can to pull these people off the road. In fact the police did a super job in both cases I was involved in. On a sad note however the insurance co. ripped me off in trying to get out of paying for the damage to my 1969 Mustang. I only wanted the car returned to it's original condition before the accident but they screwed me out of the repair bill and left me without a vehicle for 9 months. I finally got even when the passenger of the uninsured vehicle tried to sue the insurance co. The lawyer called me to testify and you should have heard him squeel when I refused to go to the hearing until the co. payed me the rest of the damage on my car. I didn't even bill them for the 9 months I was without a car. Then I hear that the passenger got a settlement for injuries and suffering (like someone forced him to ride on the back of his friends motorcycle with no insurance or licence and no headlights at night while the driver, his friend, was drinking and driving.) I understand he got a six-figure settlement for his trouble. All I got was a new insurance co. My agent wanted to know why I would change companies, can you imagine the nerve of the guy. --- Maximus 2.01 * Origin: Access Info Kingston (613)547-2479 (1:249/104) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1Q00011 Date: 01/20/98 From: DEVIN DIMITRI Time: 03:07pm \/To: TOM WALKER (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Vehicle Confiscation TW> Having the light and Actually Replacing it are Two entirely different TW> things.
