The RX7 still had the rotary engine, and it still races in some classes. It may even make a return, but not before the 2000 model. --- Blue Wave/386 v2.20 [NR] * Origin: River Canyon Rd. MG> So I guess my conversion chart meters to feet is wrong. Converting 1 foot is 0.3048 meter according to my chart, or 3.28084 feet per meter. MG> 112 feet to meters, I got a value a car length better than the MG> Porsche 911 Turbo. But 112 feet seems fine. 112 feet is 34.1376 meters. Some may stop shorter than Some of the 911's which also ranged to 120 feet (36.576 meters). When cars get exported the specs may change. Does this match your numbers for Porsche 911's? AM> I own a 12 year old Camaro with the 5 liter V8, fuel injection, and AM> overdrive automatic transmission. MG> This seems very reasonable for that big car, although 70 mph isn't MG> fast. Typical speed limits on interstate highways here are 55 near metropolitan areas and 65 mph in others. The traffic may flow 5-10 mph above this, and I flow with the traffic. Sometimes, when conditions allow, like the last few hundred miles at night and almost home, it was substantially higher. As for size, it is rated a 'compact' (probably due to a small rear seat), and is about the weight of a Volvo C70 (850), and less than the weight of the 6 cylinder BMW 5 series or V6 Mercedes C-Class and E-Class. --- Blue Wave/386 v2.20 [NR] * Origin: River Canyon Rd. What should I check or do to fix it? You could mention what it will do to resale value... ;-) But when you go to fix it, I believe it would be internal to the odometer part of the speedometer. AFAIK, they are both driven from the same source. I had a problem with the resetable portion on a car once; it was a small plastic part that broke when pressing the reset button. After seeing the gear not engaging because the shaft had pulled away, I pushed it back and pinned it with a metal pin (literally). --- Blue Wave/386 v2.20 [NR] * Origin: River Canyon Rd. Symptoms indicate bad throw- CZ> out bearing. This also has been verified by a repair shop. CZ> The question is about the $780 estimated charge to rebuild CZ> said transmission. Does this price sound right to yo'all? You first said throwout bearing and then said rebuild transmission. It sounds high to replace the throwout bearing, but it requires a lot of work to get to it on a FWD car. RWD you just drop the driveshaft and the tranny unbolts. FWD is a little more involved. I would guess this includes clutch (and possibly pressure plate) replacement too since you are already there. If they did mention rebuilding the transmission, they may think it has some bad bearings inside (expensive parts), or he may have a problem with the synchros. Does it pop out of gear, or crunch badly on gear changes? If it only crunches when stopped it may need a clutch adjustment; more free-play. If it has a whine noise that disappears when you take the play out of the clutch pedal... that's the throwout bearing. If it doesn't stop the whine, and you are sure it is in the tranny, that is most likely one or more transmission bearings. CZ> Also, would a 2.5L with transaxel from a 1988 S-10 fit in CZ> this Cavalier without too much problem? Package is avail- CZ> able (used, of course) for $250. Thanks for any comments.
