Chose a hell of a bad time too. Anyway, sit down boys and girls, long story. Going down a road in Ft Worth tonight, just as the odometer was rolling over to "160000", the tach shot way up. Found that I no longer had any acceleration, just revs, unless I put the tranny in 2nd or 1st, and even then it was slipping a bit. Got it into a parking lot, popped the hood... saw a little really foul smelling smoke coming from the passenger side of the compartment. Guess what's on that side? Transmission dipstick. Pulled the dipstick. Yup, that was the source alright. Fluid on there was transformed into black goo (it was bright red a couple of days ago), and it was a bit low too. Seeing as I was in a really bad part of town... I went ahead and threw a bottle of ATF in (had a couple of bottles in the back), waited for it to cool down a little, then fired it up. Found I had forward movment again, but reverse is nearly non-existant. Got it back to Dallas. Third gear stopped slipping after a couple of miles, so I used it once I got up on the highway and basically hauled ass (85-90). I knew the tranny was trash anyway, so I figured it couldn't hurt it anymore than it already was. Backing in to my parking spot at home was interesting. Thing was still slipping pretty bad in reverse, and the parking spots are on a slight cline. Finally got it parked, and parked it's going to stay until I find a replacment transmission and someone to put it in. Anyone selling a C-6 with the 351M/400/429/460 bolt pattern, around Dallas/Ft Worth/Denton? ... So we would get a new car about ever five years. My parents came home a few weeks ago, and they were all excited and they were telling me that the '98 camaro Z28 has 305HP, and that it goes 160+.
