I also have to run JF> a ground wire from the switch also, or do I? Colours vary on them. Check with a car audio shop (Earmark is very good, and the only place I'll buy car audio equipment from myself) and ask them what colour the antenna power wire is. Once you have the wiring figured out, you could just put a switch between the radio and antenna (so that it'll always go down when you turn off the radio, regardless of switch position). Or, you could do this: Obtain a run of the mill 12VDC switch. Hook it up to a SWITCHED power lead (such as the radio fuse), so that it'll turn off when the key is off; don't think you want a dead battery from leaving the switch on ;) Hook the other end of the wire up to the wire going to the antenna (the one that goes to the back of the stereo). Make sure it's disconnected from the back of the stereo though, unless you want stereo problems ;) To make it simple: Your radio sends +12V DC to the antenna when it's turned on. It probably controls a simple relay on the antenna motor, since the radio isn't capable of putting out the amperage required to actually drive the motor. On an aftermarket stereo, you could hook up the antenna wire to the "amp" wire on the stereo. BTW, on most aftermarket stereos, the yellow wire is the memory power wire (constant +12V DC for the clock and station presets). Not sure bout factory. ... What would be the symptoms of a bad O2 sensor? JF> $27 at the parts store, how difficult is it for a do-it-yourselfer to JF> replace? Good idea to do the TPS also? Code 13 on most TBI - Fuel Injected GM's speaks thusly: Code 13 - Oxygen Sensor Circuit - (Open Circuit) Circuit Description - The ECM supplies approximately a .45 Volt DC voltage between terminals B2 (O2 sensor, 412, PPL) and B23 (GRND, 413, Tan). If measured with a 10 megaohm digital meter, this could read as low as .32 lts. When the O2 sensor reaches operating temperature, it varies this voltage from approx. .1 volt (exhaust is lean) to .9 Volts (exhaust is rich). The sensor is like an open circuit and produces no voltage under 16'C (600'). An open sensor circuit, or a cold sensor causes "Open Loop" operation. (Open loop means that the ECM nevers takes over the fuel metering tasks, and instead is running off a set of fixed values called the "Cal-Pak". This is what leads to your rough idle. CT) Test Description: (Numbers below refer to points on the Diagnostic Chart.) 1. Code 13 will set under the following conditions: ! Engine at Normal Operating Temperature ! At least 40 seconds have elapsed since engine start-up. ! O2 Voltage signal is steady between .35 and .55 volts. ! Throttle angle is above 7' ---------------------------------. ! All the above conditions are met for 4 seconds. If conditions for a code 13 exist, the system will not obtain "Closed Loop" operation. Without the chart which is too extensive for low ascii, I recommend making sure the connections are clean and tight, and if need be, then eplace| the O2 sensor. Replacing the O2 sensor is relatively easy with a universal 2 sensor socket, and a good ratchet drive considering its location in the exhaust manifold. If the code 13 persists, cleaning the TPS switch might cure an -----' intermittent code 13, but I don't recommend changing it unless it's in a very easy to access place. (Mine is SFI, so the TPS is on the Throttle body, but on the air intake hose where it's easy to get to.) Some are on the throttle body where the throttle shaft should be on a carb, and not as easily changed or adjusted. IF the code 13 persists after O2 sensor change out, a Tech-one scan tool might be needed for more in depth diagnostics. Christopher ... Right, except for the costs to the taxpayers to support this nonsense, and the costs of having to go see a judge about it, which usually has to happen during working hours, so we get to pay a price whether we actually end up paying a fine or not. Not much of a cost, I guess, since people put up with it rather than trying to change anything, and it does get them some revenues... :-( email: roy.j.tellason%tanstaaf@frackit.com --- * Origin: TANSTAAFL BBS 717-432-0764 (1:270/615)
