KH>>> and braking 60-0 MPH in 112 feet is good all around performance. >> 112 feet? Either my convertion chart from feet to meters is wrong >> or your car breaks better than every Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren >> available... TH>> I has an anti-gravity generator... MG>> That explains :-) AM> Actually these have pretty good braking numbers; similar to those AM> listed. The best 60-0 MPH number I show is one '96 Porsche 911 Turbo AM> which stopped in 99 feet. Other 90's 911's did this in 111-120 feet. AM> 90's Corvettes are close with between 105 and 116 feet, and the AM> F-bodies 112-120 feet. So I guess my conversion chart meters to feet is wrong. Converting these 112 feet to meters, I got a value a car length better than the Porsche 911 Turbo. But 112 feet seems fine. TH>> The americans usually measure their mileage driving straight TH>> ahead on the highway with decent speeds. MG>> Mmmmh... it's a nice way to measure if you want low measurements. MG>> :) AM> They are measured two ways by the EPA, which is on the new-car AM> sticker. One is an estimate for CITY driving, the other is for AM> HIGHWAY driving. A-ha. We have the so-called 'euro-mix', in which a computer drives the car under most probable conditions, including some stop-and-go, and some high-speed cruising. AM> A typical V8 Firebird or Camaro is rated 17 CITY and 27 HIGHWAY. AM> This AM> is in Miles Per Gallon (MPG) and is measured with an actual vehicle AM> run under varying load by computer, to simulate actual driving AM> conditions. AM> I own a 12 year old Camaro with the 5 liter V8, fuel injection, and AM> overdrive automatic transmission. When moving over 2000 miles away AM> and the car loaded full and 2 aboard, it delivered 27 MPG. This was AM> with the AC on and driving 70 MPH+, which is only 2000 RPM in AM> overdrive. This seems very reasonable for that big car, although 70 mph isn't fast. cu .\\arc ... --Cut--here--on--dotted--line--or--call--1-800-BOBBITT--! --- * Origin: sympathy for the debil (2:270/47) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1J00000 Date: 01/14/98 From: JOHN FAERBER Time: 05:48pm \/To: JAY EMRIE (Read 0 times) Subj: ENGINE DISPLACEMENTS JF> CZ> 1969 Plymouth S6 OHV ???cid Blue 2dr JF> CZ> Belvedere? I need to replace a rear bumper on a '88 Escort. It was hit in a 5 mph accident. Just looking at it, it seems to have minor damage to the outer plastic. I'm guessing there is metal behind that, and possibly some kind of crash absorbtion mechanism too. So, is replacing the bumper a straitforward bolt-off, bolt-on operation? Any hidden snags I might encounter? Of course I want to save money too. Any ideas about where to get a replacement bumper? Junkyard? I wouldn't want to have to go to a dealer for this. I've got good advice before in this echo, and I thank you all in advance for any help or suggestions. _ 3 Dave Gostl 15 1429 80% 1:396/44 ... MG>> Quite irrelevant imho. I think in engine performance my car could compare with a Miata. A little slower in acceleration but more torque so you don't have to shift all day long. The fun however lies in other things. For example a fuel gauge that today didn't care to move until 160 miles were on the trip counter, travelling at a steady 85 mph. Or the feeling of the heavy loaded car levelling itself to road height when the engine is running and feeling exactly like it is empty. And the soft, cushion-like ride without sacrifice to safety and cornering ability. KH> I drove an MG last summer, another car thats very slow but KH> fun to drive!
