AM> This article really got to me, so I knew responses would be interesting. AM> I wouldn't mind if the required licensing would release the vehicle, but AM> this zero tolerance stuff will eventually combine with the confiscation The answer is so simple! Law enforcement links up to the insurance industry databases, when they pull up your license info, here is the insurance info! It would help catch those who use black market insurance cards to get around having to buy insurance. The card itself would be proof enough, but in the cases where a card is not being carried, this would verify coverage. Of course, there would be the issue of how to put this into effect, but those who are smarter than me could figure it out, this is at least the idea, other details I have not thought of would have to be resolved also. --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: * MacSavvy OS/2 BBS * Dallas, Texas * 972-250-4479 * (1:124/1208) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1G00024 Date: 01/12/98 From: JOHN FAERBER Time: 01:51am \/To: SEAN DUNBAR (Read 0 times) Subj: Bah. Boss, you can ask me these things before going onto the FIDO echo, you know? First step is to find out WHY the light is on in the first place. Usually the computer has stored a trouble code in the memory, and t's telling you something stinks in Denmark by turning on the Check Engine light. If was a soft code, resetting the computer will make the code unset, and the light will stay off the next time you start the truck. If it's a hard code, which means something is damaged in the truck's Electronic Ignition System, then the next time you start the truck, the code will reappear when that part is polled by the computer for testing, or the right conditions are met and the light will come back on. To erase the code, check the fuse block for a fuse marked "ECM". ull this fuse out and leave it out for 10-20 minutes. Reinsert the fuse and hen restart the truck, the light should stay out. If there's no "ECM" fuse, then you can pull the ground off the battery for 10-20 minutes and accomplish the same thing. If the light goes back on, then you're going to have to find a reputible repair shop to pull the codes on the truck using a Tech-one or similar scanner. (I know of one locally who can usually do it for $15-20 bucks.) This will tell you what needs to be repaired before the light can be reset till the next crisis! :-) Christopher ... ۰ You're sticking that where? ___ Blue Wave/DOS v2.30 [NR] --- PCBoard (R) v15.22/M 2 * Origin: Ed's BBS * Holiday,Florida * 1:3619/45 (1:3619/45)
