After sitting/waiting for the car, reading the magazines, watching TV, etc. I saw they had "boxes" of replacement oil pan plugs plus those for stripped plugs. Needless to say, I dodn't bring my personal vehicle there as from time to time, I saw the boxes become less full. Are you saying the individual inspection > stations can charge different prices? [----------^^^^ you said the above ^^^^-----------] The actual inspection fee maybe $xx. bucks, but to pass the inspection may require some minor repair or major as the case maybe like broken headlight/taillight or missing muffler, etc. and that's extra $$$ to get the sticker. Each state maybe different but overall those states that recently start an emissions pgm. usually seem expensive until things settle down. I thing I've noticed is that inspection stations are started by those who have the money or really want to be in the garage business just for inspections(makes you wonder). In other words basic local garages or ma&pa operations don't opt for inspection station status and/or they're driven out of business because of the expense to be competitive. -_-_-Bill --- * Origin: Bordertown - Telegram from the Border (1:234/43) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1C00002 Date: 01/06/98 From: RONNIE THOMPSON Time: 05:43pm \/To: ROY J. [----------^^^^ you said the above ^^^^-----------] I suggest you get a carb cleaner and directly spray into the TBI area. While this is simple, alot of people think it's not maybe getting into modern stuffed smog vehicles maybe, but once the cleaner cover is off, it's real easy. If you can look at the spray pattern, it should be uniform and be a fine mist, not a dibble or uneven in pattern. These TBI's are are suppose to last the life of the car and shouldn't need replacement unless of course it absoluty fails. --- * Origin: Bordertown - Telegram from the Border (1:234/43) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1C00006 Date: 01/07/98 From: TOM WALKER Time: 06:49am \/To: JOHN FAERBER (Read 0 times) Subj: Injectors -> What is the average life of injectors before they need replacing, -> and what are the symptoms of bad injectros? -> Specifically a 1987 Cadillac Sedan Deville. -> It is throttle body with only 2 injectors? With reasonable care they will last the Life of the car. As long as the car maintains it's driveability the fuel miledge doesn't noticeably change they probably are alright on your 1987 Caddie. There should be a test procedure in the Shop Manual. The Basic test is to examine Spray Pattern, in a safe testing situation of course. Which can be simply letting them inject into a Quart glass jar where the pattern can be examined. Was quite easy in the early days of injection systems using Flexible hoses. Little more difficult and requires "Test" plumbing in this day of Hard tubing plumbing. The other test is Fuel Delivery during a specified time period. --- GEcho 1.20/Pro * Origin: Jim's East County BBS! El Cajon, CA. It's a rigged game, no matter what. One of the things that really bugs me here (in PA) is that if you don't have insurance for like 90 days your costs go up, and you get stuffed into the "assigned risk" category for at least six months. How's that supposed to work when I have just put a vehicle into roadworthy condition? I've got this truck I've been working on for a couple of years, now, ferinstance, and another one I want to sell that's sitting out here in the yard, not currently registered _or_ insured. Why should I have to spend the money for something that isn't being driven? AM> far. The main reason is the new emission-testing program. A recent AM> sample of 51 local garages found the charges for a pollution and safety AM> inspection to average of $69.00. The next most expensive program is in AM> California and averages out at around $60.00. Car insurance for a ddle JF> This baffles me! In the parts of Texas that require emission JF> testing, the price is around $20.75 (if I remeber correctly) no JF> matter which station the car is taken to. Are you saying the JF> individual inspection stations can charge different prices? Sure can. What gets me about _that_ is that they're now charging for the inspection, a separate "sticker" charge, and that's pass/fail, so you end up paying either way. Now, you can't drive a car too much without a valid inspection sticker, so a while back the state decided that inspection stations were also required to see proof of insurance before they'd be able to pass you. You can't _register_ a car without insurance, either. I dunno why they keep pushing things like that... A while back I had a car sitting around that I was going to fix up. No tags on it at all, and an expired sticker. I got hassled good by one local police chief who sent a guy over to tell me that it had to be removed. I pointed out to the officer that it was sitting on private property, with the permission of the owner, and that if he could tell me exactly what law I was supposed to be violating I'd be happy to deal with it, but otherwise he needed to butt out. Not confrontational with the cop or anything like that (I ain't *dumb* :-), but not taking any crap either. Some place I hear about you can't even do that, keep an unregistered vehicle on your own private property without getting hassled about it. That really sucks... email: roy.j.tellason%tanstaaf@frackit.com --- * Origin: TANSTAAFL BBS 717-432-0764 (1:270/615)
