Heh... I went to one of those places one time, with good results. We then some time later on took another vehicle there, at my insistence, and it turned out to be a big mistake. I shoulda know there would be a problem with the place when the Castrol sign outside went away, replaced by some other brand. I knew that there was a problem when I looked through the door from the waiting room into the garage and saw the car rocking back and forth. Since I'd gotten a bit of a hostile attitude about going into the garage, I instead went out the front door and looked into the open garage door there, only to see two guys down in the pit trying to force _A PIPE WRENCH_ in the wrong direction! They distorted the point where the filler plug went into the pan enough to crease the metal and cause a leak there. This resulted in the car being left there while it was taken to a nearby (*real*) service station to get it fixed. Those guys used some sort of epoxy to fix it, but in the process made the plug un-removable, meaning that we *couldn't* change the oil in that car again. The operator of the oil change place said that we'd have to take it to some place that'd stick something down the dipstick tube and suck it out that way. My responses to him were appropriate, to the effect that he and his "mechanics" were the ones who sucked, and that I didn't have to go looking for anybody else who would, and when were they gonna pay to get it fixed right... After a whole bunch of phone calls to the main office of this chain and to other places, we ended up getting told that their insurance would cover it, and to go ahead and get it fixed. Which meant a new oil pan. Which we did, and *still* that bastard didn't want to issue a check, until we pushed things right up to the wire. I know *I* won't go to another one of those places. I'd rather spend the money with a good mechanic who's likely to have a metric wrench if he needs one. email: roy.j.tellason%tanstaaf@frackit.com --- * Origin: TANSTAAFL BBS 717-432-0764 (1:270/615) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1B00002 Date: 01/06/98 From: BILL MITCHELL Time: 05:15pm \/To: ROY J. We assumed there may have been a bad cell which was gassing, anyway the battery exploded and the top of the battery went flying. It pretty much took of the top of his head. While it's possible that the cigarrette didn't ignite the gasses, it's probable that it did. There was little damage to anything besides his head and the battery. --- * Origin: The Right Place, Fort Lee, NJ USA(201)947-8231 (1:2604/539.11) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1B00003 Date: 01/06/98 From: JOHN FAERBER Time: 01:19am \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Injectors What is the average life of injectors before they need replacing, and what are the symptoms of bad injectros? There maybe another source but if this truly became known after an oil change, then i assume that's the cause. Go back to the people who did the oil change and suggest either they change the oil or be ready for replacing an engine because of thier fault.
