He told me that Toyota chose to build a RW> one-off carb for a few years on that particular car. The carbs RW> before and after were so much better, but wouldn't work on this RW> one. I didn't ask why... DL> Our Corolla's is a fairly conventional 2-barrel spread bore, DL> second barrel opened by vacuum. It has a lot of plumbing going to DL> it but is basically the same carb Toyota used 20 years ago. RW> I don't know. For some reason Max calls it a one-off, maybe RW> meaning that they changed the carb for some reason and then RW> improved it later..after they figured out what they did wrong. I've never heard of this, only of some late 1980s Tercels being equipped with a troublesome (for Toyota) variable venturi carb. I'd be very surprised if any Corolla made since the late 1970s had an unusual carb. Toyota basically just changed settings on it (jets, accelerator pump stroke, etc.) or added hardware (choke unloader, electric heater, fuel solonoid). Also, this carb is only about $400-$500 from Toyota dealers (the dashpot that mounts on it is another $300-$400). I think all that was wrong with her carburetor was a bad power pump or float valve. --- AdeptXBBS v1.07g (Registered) * Origin: Tempe, AZ USA (602)491-5285 (1:114/20) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1500060 Date: 12/29/97 From: DON LEWIS Time: 02:50pm \/To: ROY J.
