Jay, I might be shooting in the wind here, but I remember a couple years ago, hearing of a bunch of Chrysler vehicles, in which Chrysler had actually put in security systems, but had not activiated them as it wasn't on the "option list". IF the person who bought the car wanted a security system, the dealer could activate the thing and charge some outrageous fee, claiming they had "installed" a security system. Any chance that there might be one on this vehicle and it may be causing problems?? How you check to see if this particular one has it, I don't know. Perhaps with the VIN, and a nice shop foreman or service advisor, at a Chrysler dealership. Ronnie in NC ... Well I read an article about the 700R4 as a swap alternative, and how there are companys that sell complete hookups for it so you don't HAVe to fool it. It will work as it was designed to, as a closed loop system (i.e. no hookups to smog/fuel systems/ignition/etc just the transmision doing it's job). So you could completely program shift points etc etc etc. This appeals to me a lot, since you can program by throtal range as well (i.e. anything short of 1/2 throtal is nice and baby-butt-smooth, get over 1/2 and it starts to add a bite, get over 3/4 and it's ripping chunks of tire off as it spins the tires going into 3rd type of deal ;) ). I was extremely curious about this, but I think it has a hefty pricetag attached and I'm not sure I want to bother with a car I don't intend to keep all that long. However, I also have a '65 Chevelle thats next on the list and was considering this as something to add to that project. As for mileage, I think it WOULD make a big diff even without altering the engine much. After all, adding overdrive helps a lot. Since 90% of my driving time in this car is at freeway speeds, dropping engine rpms by 1200 or so with overdrive is going to help. :) And besides, even if I see no improvement in mileage... at least I won't see a severe hit in driveability and mileage when I drop it 3.8x gears in place of those 3.08's :)0 --- Telegard v3.09.g1/mL * Origin: FidoNet [Novatech-TX].[972-475-3833].[Texas] (1:124/7006) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1300008 Date: 01/01/98 From: JEREMY LOWREY Time: 05:36pm \/To: JASON WEDEHASE (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Transmission? .. Really? I'm impressed, since the Th350 is a forward pattern, and the 700__R__4 is a reverse pattern. Not only does it involve a complete linkage swap, but a new shifter and probably re-cutting the hole for the shifter as well. ;) Doing all of that in an hour impresses me in and of itself, not to mention the 700R4 is an electronic tranny and needs the system hooked up even if in a loop to fool it. If you can do that in an hour, I'll buy the tranny, your air tickets, all your meals and bear you can chug if you'll come do mine. :> And from all people I've talked to, the tail-length of the 700R4 is a tad longer than the Th350 which necessitates a drive shaft swap. Not that that would add much time to a job assuming you already had the new shaft (since you'd have to remove it anyways). I'm just curiuos if the cross memeber clearances would all still be the same and so on. And where did you get new mounts for it, or did the old ones work? --- Telegard v3.09.g1/mL * Origin: FidoNet [Novatech-TX].[972-475-3833].[Texas] (1:124/7006)
