Lots of the newer V8 models are as economical as the V6/I6 models, and some even as good as the 4 cylinder models. Look at the new Corvette, it has an engine around 5.6 or 5.7L I think (not sure on this, can someone help me out here?), and I think it gets about 20-25 MPG on the highway. Gasoline is cheaper here though; it runs about $1.20/gallon for 93 octane where I am (sorry, not sure how much per litre that would be..). My particular V8 is very expensive for me to run though; I average $50-$75 per week in fuel alone (but I spend, on average, an hour to two hours on the road per day too) --- Telegard v3.09.g1/mL * Origin: tos * 972-818-0339 - dallas texas (1:124/6630) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1200032 Date: 01/01/98 From: SEAN DUNBAR Time: 08:52pm \/To: MARC GERGES (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: REVERSE QUESTION BM> location even though the service brakes passed. Seldom do we all totally agree on something. :) JE> Doesn't seem to be losing a charge since the incident (several days JE> now) - Yes, I am afraid we are truly chasing an intermittent SOMETHING! Let me relate a brief story to you about my former 79 Ford truck. The relatively new battery (less than a year old) seemed to not hold a charge. I had to jump start it a few times, and I would have no problems if I put it on a charger overnight about every other night. The charging voltage was about 14 volts, so I didn't believe it to be an alternator problem. All of the connections were clean and tight. I took it to the shop to get the battery tested. Yes, the battery was bad, I was told. At least it was still under warranty. Guess what? Even with the new battery I had the same symptoms. So I went back to the shop. This time the mechanic happened to touch the positive battery cable and OUCH! It was hot. It just so happened that I had just started the truck. The starter was drawing an excessive current, so much so that it heated the battery cable. I changed the starter and it fixed the problem. Apparently the starter was consuming so much energy from the battery that my 20 minute drive each way to work was insufficient to replenish the energy in the battery. It was one of those marginal situations. As long as the battery had a good charge, the starter did a super job of turning the engine. There were no other symptoms. I doubt that this is your problem, but I thought I'd mention it. --- QScan/PCB v1.19b / 01-0232 * Origin: IBMNet Connection - Indpls, IN - 317-882-5575 28.8 USR (1:231/1) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: F1200035 Date: 01/02/98 From: MARK LOGSDON Time: 12:05am \/To: JAY EMRIE (Read 0 times) Subj: Battery sizes JE> Roy, that is your privilege.
