As said, I don't want to attack you, but is acceleration MG> really all that is about a car? Such an Eclipse is a lovely car to dart MG> around small mountain roads. What if I argue that with my V8.... I can out accelerate your Eclipse, I have a higher top speed, but in addition, with my car being a Firebird, or whatever, I can also out corner and out brake you. Your Eclipse has one advantage. Economy. I feel that is highly outweighed by the advantages of a V8. Also, as a side note, the best way to accelerate is NOT to spin the tires. Just because my V8 can spin the tires and perhaps your 4 cyliner cant very easily doesnt mean that I am not accelerating harder than you. My 50% beats your 100%, for example. This is all hypothetical, of course, but very realistic. B303 or E303 cam? KH> What else? I picked up a Cobra short block from my friendly Ford dealer. I kept my stock cam with my 1.7's. I didn't want to pop for another set of roller rockers to get back to a 1.6 ratio, and then buy another cam. My present setup puts me real close to a B303's lift (.473 vs .480) I had a F3ZZ Cobra cam to put in, but then I got the inside scoop on that and left it on the bench. The F3ZZ doesn't have a lot of overlap due to wide lobe centers (The exhaust is 121.5 deg.) so they don't do well on the big end. You do get a better idle and a bit of midrange with it though. Bottom line- the F3ZZ costs 8 horse over a stock cam. Why? Time. Ford was sweating the emissions calibration and didn't have time to spec a second cam if they went too far and didn't blow clean for the EPA certification with the GT40 heads. You *won't* read that in MM&FF. My deepthroat source said the cam to get was the 87-early 88 cam used in the speed density 'stangs. The lift specs are the same as my cam but the rate of lift is quicker. Ford slowed it down due to noise and durability concerns. It's worth 3-5 over the later cam. The bad news is that you can't buy it as a service part. It was superseded by the "soft" cam. Whoa...got long winded there, but I figured you would want the whole picture. :) I did the complete gig from the clutch to radiator, and down to the motor mounts. I did throw a windage tray in while I had the bottom end staring me in the face. I know Jeg's, Summitt, Ramchargers, and my Ford dealer had a good November and December. ;-) Santa bring the Firebird anything for Christmas?
