RW>> Yeah, but it makes that hp at 7000 rpm. The problem with that is, RW>> it has to work so hard to get there. And it only produces 156 lb/ft RW>> of torque vs the C5's 350 lb/ft. Torque moves a car, horsepower RW>> keeps it moving, remember? KH> KH> Agreed, thats why I get sick and tired of the "Oh, but your engine is KH> bigger then mine," stuff from the import and Mustang owners. To me, KH> thats the car buyers fault for buying a $25,000 car with a 2.2l KH> torqueless engine in it! $25k? I heard that a 2.2l Honda Civics go for over $30k. I was in small claims court testifying for a friend the other day. A case ahead of us had this poor guy who traded his LEMON Thunderbird in on a Honda Civic. He hadn't made a payment and the car dealer wasn't taking back the car, just wanted his payments. The judge was concerned that this guy was going to end up paying $48k for a $32k Honda, but he had to legally decide in the car dealers favor. I felt sorry for the guy... KH> As far as the Mustang vs. FBody wars go, they are a joke. The new KH> LS1 FBodies are faster then the Cobras, thats a fact. They run KH> consistent 13.3-13.8s stock. The 'worst' time I have heard was a KH> 13.8 at 102.XX MPH. That was an automatic Trans AM with 2.73 gears! KH> The 4.6 DOHC Ford engine gets the same gas mileage, weighs more KH> then the LT1 and LS1 V8s, and produces less torque. People say, KH> "But the Ford makes the same power with 1.1 less liters." On paper KH> it might, but not in the real world, and its not even close in KH> torque. There's another case where the engine makes the same horsepower, but it's all made at the other end of the spectrum. Unless you're doing a lot of street racing, most engines never see more than 3000 rpm. Else where in this echo, Alan and I were discussing 302's built by Chevrolet, back in the late sixties. That engine made a lot of horsepower at high rpm, but it could only be used while you were racing. Basically making it useless for the street. Probably why Chevrolet only made that engine for two years. Or maybe it was because they had a bunch of 283 cranks left over and needed to use them up...:) RW>> I've heard that Honda is producing some V8's for import now. Lets RW>> wait and see the technology they use on those... KH>> Any Japanese car with a V8 costs a bundle. As it should... ... I noticed the NSX as it was parked right KH> out front, but not one other person noticed it. It was black and KH> tinted out, very nice car, but it may have well been a Neon as it KH> drew no attention. With that crowd (college kids about my age, 21) a KH> C5 Vette would have drawn a bit of a crowd. This past summer I spend KH> quite a bit of time at Belmar (beach in South Jersey) and we would KH> see an occasional C5 parked. It always drew a small crowd or people KH> pointing at it, checking it out. As far as the 'Gawk meter' goes, the KH> C5 wins:) I pass one of those parked along the curb, eveyday on the way home from the shop. It's red with a black top.
