KR> heh My Liability doesn't bring it up THAT much.. oh'well.. just hope KR> it doesn't go up NEmore.. but it will =( Well.. I wound up going with a different company. It's a bit higher ($1600 yr vs the $1300 yr I would have been paying), but it's a better company too. Got a 6 month policy with them yesterday. You know what though.. I didn't know I'd had a nail in my right front tire (a BIG one). It came out while I was on my way home... truck started pulling to the right really bad. I pulled over, and the freakin right front tire was completly flat. It was so low that I couldn't get the jack under the truck (wound up jacking the frame up, putting the spare tire under, and bracing it on that until I could get the jack under the suspension). Got it fixed today.. KR> Oh'well You can't shoot them so.. You might aswhile make shure the KR> brakes work good, and be prepaired, Kinda why i drive with two feet KR> most of the time =] It'll be too slow moving My right foot from the KR> gas pedal to the brake.. and I'm serious, sometimes it is =] people KR> here do that.. The cut you off well plying the brakes.. I hate that. I actually do drive with two feet when the engine is cold; it's the only way I can keep it running until it's been going a few minutes. --- Telegard v3.09.g1/mL * Origin: tos * 972-818-0339 - dallas texas (1:124/6630) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: EGT00019 Date: 12/23/97 From: PETER HARLE Time: 03:42pm \/To: ROY WITT (Read 0 times) Subj: Electrical loads, battery -=> Quoting Roy Witt to Alan Morrison <=- RW> 17 Dec 97 20:07, Alan Morrison said this about Electrical loads, RW> battery to JAY EMRIE. You need some voltage to initiate a field AM> in the alternator, meaning it wouldn't push-start unless it had a AM> battery with some amount of voltage. RW> If you look at a schematic of an internally regulated alternator, RW> you'll see a self-excitation circuit. That's true Roy, but most also have a terminal for the indicator light. Its primary purpose is to indicate a malfunction in the charging system. Its secondary purpose is to provide a small excitation current to the alternator field winding. The globe needs to be rated at least around 2 to 3 watts, or if an LED is used, a parallel connected resistor is required. BOSCH, CAV, Chrysler, Denso, Delco-Remy, Ford, Mitsubishi, Motorola, etc., all stipulate a minimum excitation current via the globe and/or suitable resistor. From personal experience I must admit I've yet to find a working, general purpose automotive alternator that won't "self-excite", even after many months of non-use. Simple tests also tend to support the positive aspects of using the "warning light current" to "pre-excite" the rotor. The alternator begins charging as soon as the engine reaches around 600 rpm. Usually immediately after starting an engine without extra revving. Disconnecting the warning light circuit generally means the engine needs to be revved to at least around 1500 to 2000 rpm before the alternator begins to "kick in" and charge normally.
