Except for most GM cars, the 30,000-mile antifreeze put in at the factory (and the 60,000-mile antifreeze Toyota puts in) *is* regular antifreeze, only car makers stretch the change interval too much (It should be changed every year or 12,000 miles). But the 100,000-mile antifreeze Roy is probably referring to contains entirely different additives and, as he said, its longevity will be greatly compromised if it's mixed with ordinary antifreeze. Zerex's antifreeze is now rated for five years or 50,000 miles, but it's not the same as the 100,000-mile products from Prestone and Texaco. For one thing, it contains silicone silicate, which builds up inside the radiator and is abrasive to water pump seals. --- AdeptXBBS v1.07g (Registered) * Origin: Tempe, AZ USA (602)491-5285 (1:114/20) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: EGT00000 Date: 12/21/97 From: PERCY WONG Time: 11:12pm \/To: JAY EMRIE (Read 0 times) Subj: Antifreeze JE>RT> JE> Further states, " Outside this range you may lose corrosion and rust JE>RT> JE> protection for the metals in your cooling system."
