MG>> But on the other hand, you should consider that in the MG>> 120mph+ area, it accelerates better than a Formula 1 car. MG>> :-) JP> That is important to us interstate commuters. Seeing that every second message on this echo is about acceleration, I thought this was a strong point to be made :-) The McLaren F1 was tested at Nardi high speed circuit in Italy, to find its top speed. They stopped testing at 231mph. Not because that's the car's limit, but it is the circuit's limit. And until they have found a faster circuit, that's the car's indicated top speed :-) BTW: many of the numbers stated here are like '14.5 at 102' or so... could anybody tell me what that's about? I found in the context of the mails that it is about acceleration, but over what distance and up to what speed? cu .\\arc ...All answers questioned here. --- * Origin: sympathy for the debil (2:270/47) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: EGQ00045 Date: 12/19/97 From: KENNY HENDERSON Time: 02:58am \/To: ROY WITT (Read 0 times) Subj: American Sports Car RW> TW>> Not arguing that. One thing for sure, they are just ratings and AM>I trust the results more than the published ratings. If you rate it high AM>the insurance may increase, so they may rate it below a certain figure. Very true. AM>I would guess the actual HP is closer than the ratings, for sure. C&D AM>got a 13.3 (C5) vs a 13.6 (Supra T) which indicates the Supra has more AM>power than 320 with its ~250 pounds extra mass. The quickest I have seen for a Supra Turbo was 13.4. I think the quickest I've seen for a C5 is a 13.2 or 13.3. The cars are very close. Based on my experience (having street raced both cars, SHHH:) The C5 is a bit stronger down low, while the Supra Turbo is definately a bit stronger at high speeds. AM>Impressive, but temperature and humidity may play a bigger part in power AM>production on a computer controlled turbo car, than a normally aspirated AM>one. Testing both cars together by different magazines seems to show AM>the C5 a bit quicker, but the Supra is within a few tenths... Gearing AM>may also play a part here so you would have to compare top speeds on the AM>same ones you tested for acceleration. Very true. Also, I have talked to quite a few LS1 owners (FBody and C5 Vette) and the LS1s run quite well when its warm out. The warm air doesn't effect them much, in fact most guys achieve their best times with a temp of 180 or so, and after one or two previous 1/4 mile runs. AM>You're right, they tested 5 speed NSX's from '92 to '94 which had 270 HP. AM>They ran an average ET of 13.8. The '91 and '96 automatics avg'd 14.35.
