From my numerous negative Ford experiences, I'd say its impossible to underestimate Ford's ability to make anything it touches worse. The Probe and recent Escorts are mostly Mazda designs, and in the case of my Escort, all ten problems were with the Ford parts while the Mazda parts haven't caused a bit of trouble. I doubt this has been a coincidence. --- AdeptXBBS v1.07g (Registered) * Origin: Tempe, AZ USA (602)491-5285 (1:114/20) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: EGQ00026 Date: 12/20/97 From: JAMES ARNOLD Time: 04:27am \/To: JAY EMRIE (Read 0 times) Subj: Antifreeze ML> Hey, just fill your radiator with straight antifreeze and you > won't need to worry about distilled vs deionized...:) JA> Unless you have a Ford. I read in an automotive Q&A column about Ford denying such a claim, and the other cars I've owned allowed antifreeze concentrations as high as 70%, which actually provides better protection against corrosion than 60% does. I wouldn't bet on conventional coolant still being in good condition at 3/30K because by then its silicate will have turned to poly and its buffers gone bad from heat. GM/Texaco Dex-Cool is much better. --- AdeptXBBS v1.07g (Registered) * Origin: Tempe, AZ USA (602)491-5285 (1:114/20) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 246 AUTOMOTIVE Ref: EGQ00027 Date: 12/20/97 From: TOM WALKER Time: 06:12am \/To: DEVIN DIMITRI (Read 0 times) Subj: cool cop cars -> TW> They are just as delivered by FORD on a Police Car order. The Schedule is a number representing a Pressure/Stress factor. Pressure of course is self apparent. You need a thicker wall thickness to handle higher pressures. Stress is mostly environmentally rated particularly fro operations enduring high shock or vibration. As an example I Volunteer at the San Diego Railroad Maintenance facility and helped them Restore a Steam Engine. It is a 200 pound boiler which is stationary operations would call fro Schedule 40 Pipe. Because of the Vibrations and shocks of Railroad Service we are supposed to use Schedule 80 pipe and fittings. -> I tryed in vain to find a Metric Pipe Tap or Die the other day. -> There is no such thing as Metric pipe threads, unless they take NPS -> and NPT pipe specs and convert them to metric specs... The only thing I have been able to come up with so far other then the comment in the McMaster Carr Catalog is that the Oil Pressure switches on Japanese cars is the same as the 1/8 NP in outer diameter but has 28 Threads per inch instead of 27. While you can FORCE a 27 thread into that 28 thread hole it is NOT recommended. --- GEcho 1.20/Pro * Origin: Jim's East County BBS! El Cajon, CA.
