My vehicles JH> must all be too old to even find them. Well my old '46 Plymouth Special Deluxe had them. Many only have them under metal plates that serve no purpose but to cover and protect the frame number. I had a '36 Chevy that had to have the cover ground off to expose the number and them welded back on, all in the presence of a DMV person, to allow me to retitle an abandoned car we found in the Vegas desert near Jean, NV. The main problem is that with the truck being primarily in Illinois, surface corrosion from road salt can make the job ten times harder if I don't know he general area on the frame for the number. - Pedit Ver 2.6 Russ Blakeman, SysOp Blue Moon of Ky BBS - Harned, KY FidoNet 1:2450/500 BBS/FAX (502) 756-6991 24 Hrs / 365 Days / 3 Nodes on rollover ...It is easy to propose impossible remedies. --- ProBoard v2.15 [Reg] * Origin: Blue Moon of Kentucky BBS / Harned,KY / (502) 756-6991 1:2450/500) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 245 OLD TRUCKS Ref: DDU00001 Date: 09/23/96 From: JIM HADFIELD Time: 09:39pm \/To: ALL (Read 4 times) Subj: who's here? BTW: I found the serial number on my truck after using one of those 3M/Scotch wheels to take the salt scale off the frame. It was right where the Hayne's manual said, on the right front frame n the engine compartment area. Amazing what I could do after I get my butt actually out there and work at finding it. - Pedit Ver 2.6 Russ Blakeman, SysOp Extraodinaire Blue Moon of Kentucky BBS/Harned, KY 40144 FidoNet 1:2450/500 VETLink #96 19:201/400 BBS/Fax (502) 756-6991 ...Flattery is counterfeit money, circulated by vanity. --- ProBoard v2.15 [Reg] * Origin: Blue Moon of Kentucky BBS / Harned,KY / (502) 756-6991 1:2450/500) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 245 OLD TRUCKS Ref: DDW00001 Date: 09/29/96 From: RUSS BLAKEMAN Time: 06:50am \/To: BILL BOOGAART (Read 4 times) Subj: Inquiry for serial number on 77 1/2 F-2506:50:0409/29/96 BB> And my '47 Ford has it on the frame immediately in front of the right BB> waterpump/motor mount. This ended up being on the right front frame, top of the rail in front of the firewall. It's about frame-ways from being dead below where they used to ount the plate on the firewall prior to '76. Living in MN and my old trucks coming from WI is probably why I don't find SN's. Like your old truck, they are probably buried under the rust. I'll have to dig for them, someday....
