These high gas prices in California have me bummed out, the 'ol 30 year old pick-up is only getting about 10-12 miles a gallon; if I drive the wife's car I get about 25 mpg. I guess I could still drive the Chevy, if I got a part-time job to pay for gas. :( Gary --- timEd 1.01 * Origin: Esc1.70 - Garbo's Arena (1:203/1109) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 245 OLD TRUCKS Ref: DAG00003 Date: 06/11/96 From: BRUCE LEGRANDE Time: 06:54pm \/To: ALL (Read 10 times) Subj: 64 Jeep Wagoneer ? I just ran accross a fellow with a 1964 Jeep Wagoneer that is willing to part with it. According to him, the only thing wrong is that the AutoTrans (the rig is a 4X) is beginning to slip and keeps dropping out of 'drive' into 2nd. It's his opinion that the vehicle would be worth $2500 in running condition, but I think he mentioned $1500 as is (with the tranny probs). Is this something I want to get interested in ? Or was there an indemic problem with the trans of that make/model/year ? Providing there are no other problems, what would a rebuilt trans for that rig cost me ? Well hello there stranger... 8-) I was for a while, but the provider I had was brain-dead as far as how to set up for me to use my JNOS software to get my e-mail, so I dropped them. I'm now waiting for AT&T to get their ISDN pop sites going and will access there at 64k. Word has it that they will be online by mid-fall. The truck is pretty much the same condition, but I've been communicating with a fellow on the north side of the lake that rebuilds race cars and has a nice garage at home. We're planning to flatbed the Dodge in the next couple weeks and take it up there. He says he found a set of motor mounts for the 318 engine, and will lend a hand in fabricating the adapters to the frame. He also has buukuu contacts for getting the drive line shortened and trued. Once this gets done, we'll trailer it back here and I can begin working on the permanent ignition and other wiring. I've been on the phone for hours getting his mailer and BBS problems ironed out, so it's kind of like an exchange of assistance. So, how are things going over in your neck-o-the-woods ?!? The StRaNgE OHC-6 that Jeep made? I have heard some horrible things about this engine, and that getting parts can be a problem. What is the body/interior like in it? If it has the OHC-6 it is probably something I would shy away from at that price. BL> Is this something I want to get interested in ? That depends, do you like searching for non-existant engine parts? You must like pain and suffering (otherwise you would not like having a /0 after one of your node numbers :). BL> Or was there an indemic problem with the trans of that BL> make/model/year ? I Think they used a Borg-Warner auto trans which for the most part are fairly sturdy. BL> Providing there are no other problems, what would a rebuilt BL> trans for that rig cost me ? If you take the whole thing to a trans shop probably close to a grand (extra work because of 4 wheel drive), unless you go to AAMCO, then double it.
