ST> That is the main reason I am thinking of reading more of that series, the ST> humor and interplay of the characters. Yes, I found them quite charming in that respect - I think there are one or two left that I have not yet read. * JABBER v1.2 * You've pegged out my credulity-meter! --- InterEcho 1.19 * Origin: The Oasis BBS: (817) 613-9002 (1:130/716) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 244 MYSTERY Ref: EFM00004 Date: 11/17/97 From: SUSAN BULLA Time: 08:09pm \/To: SUZZE TIERNAN (Read 1 times) Subj: Books ST> SB> I read very indiscriminately. BRT was OK - passed the time tolerably ST> SB> well, but I'm not eagerly awaiting the next. ST> ST> I do believe I will pass on it then. Okay. The cat, Robert Johnson, was probably the best element of the book. ST> SB> Probably should give this one a miss, too, if that's the case - same ST> SB> idiosyncratic characters. ST> Yes, that was my problem with the first, didn't like the characters. Seems to ST> be a love it or hate it series of books. The Mallory character is interesting to me, but not very sympathetic. This is the first of hers that I've read and I will likely miss the second part of the two-parter. Bummer. It came out last year (in fact the pb is already ST> out). The third in the Mary Russell series is "A Letter of Mary". It will be ST> out in pb next month. Well, son of a gun. Blew right past me. Have you read it? Did you like it? I was in B&N buying a book for Mother Sunday and cruised the mystery section for King's books, but all they had in stock was "Beekeeper's Apprentice." Can't wait to get my hands on "With Child." Fred, are you "listening"?! Dammit, now I can't remeber if I've read "Letter from Mary" or just the teaser at the end of the previous book. Sigh .... FR> FR> Have you read any of the "Kate Martinelli" books? FR>Same thing happened to me. Now, I have managed to read AGT and was pleased FR>by it. FR>I wonder if there is a second in the "Martinelli" series. She might have FR>put that series aside since the "Mary Russell" books did so well. There are at least three out that I know of. As is often the case, the second (title escapes me) is *slightly* weaker (but still a worthwhile read). The third is "up to snuff", though! I just finished Carol Nelson Douglas' _Cat In A Diamond Dazzle_ and _Cat With An Emerald Eye_. Enjoyed CiaDD but was disappointed with CWaEE. It didn't feel like a whole story or even an interesting one. Has anyone else read these? What did you think?
