I'm lumbering toward finishing "Monsterous Regiment of SB> Women." I really liked the way it started and the middle was oK but SB> I think the end is very weak. Sigh .... Hi Susan, I really like 'Monstrous... ' until the end. I do not like the liberty that King takes in the ending. I don't want to say more about it, as I don't want to tip off what happens to people who haven't read the book yet. Although it may be common knowledge around here, my participation has been pretty spotty lately. Some people thought the book was too feminist or too religious, if I remember correctly; but those themes didn't intrude on my enjoyment, and were essential to the story as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise, I been stuck with a number of quite ho-hum readings, nothing that really stands out, except for my current one, 'The Music of What Happens' by John Straley. I think this is the third in his Cecil Younger series and every bit as enjoyable as 'The Woman Who Married a Bear' and 'The Curious Eat Themselves'. Younger is an alchoholic Alaskan who admits to "not being a very good detective." Straley writes beautifully and revealingly about life in Alaska. His titles come from folk legends. PF> I am a new poster but an avid reader. Just finished Sanders Nighht PF> Crew and found it to a excellent read. He introduces all new people PF> with a different story line. I hope he follows it with other plot I'm also a fan of Sanders books. I like his characters, and the well thoughtout believable plots. I especially like the McNally series. PF> series. I also like to read Kellerman both of them and hope to see a PF> new novel on both Delaware and Decker this year sometime. I've never gotten hooked on Kellerman's books, they just haven't appealed to me for some reason. I am a fan of several series that are all set in Florida. I particularly like Carl Hiaasen's books. He has a rather bizarre view of South FLorida, or maybe he just doesn't have the rose colored sunglasses that the Chamber of Commerce types all seem to view Miami through. The movie 'Striptease' was based on ne of Hiaasen's books. I also like Edna Buchanan and her books set in Miami. Her heroine, Britt Montero, is a newspaper reporter with instincts about stories that usually have her more involved than she should be. Tight, gritty writing and plots that are right out of todays headlines. I'm currently reading 'Tropical Depression' by Laurence Shames. His books are set in the Key West area, and he is along the lines of Hiaasen in his riting, but not so bizarre and absurd. He does give you lots of little pokes in the ribs, and has lots of subtle humor in his plots. If you hang around this echo for long, you'll probably find your stack of 'books to be read' growing at an alarming rate! Bob 8-{) --- Blue Wave/Max v2.20 * Origin: TechTalk; Calgary, Alberta.
