Back on topic: I just finished reading "Guilty as Sin" by Tami Hoag and I really enjoyed it. Now I'm ready to read "Requiem For A Glass Heart" by David Lindsey, even if it is a Spy novel. I like the way he writes. Joan * SLMR 2.1a * ... Hi! :) Hi there! Don't apologise for your English. It will improve with use, and, if you read and enjoy good mysteries, here is a good place for you to try yours out. Nor are you the only person posting here who speaks another language as a primary language. Meanwhile, I whish I had as handy an opportunity to practice my Spanish, which has grown rusty with disuse. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0Z1 * Origin: Mr Zip "Home of Aunt Gabby Echo" (1:123/17) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 244 MYSTERY Ref: E2T00004 Date: 02/16/97 From: SUZZE TIERNAN Time: 01:22pm \/To: JAN WERTZ (Read 5 times) Subj: Native Americans -=> Quoting JAN WERTZ to SUZZE TIERNAN <=- JW> Henry, who writes from the Native American point of view. Tony JW> Hillerman writes a great mystery set in the modernday West, from a JW> Dineh (Navajo) perspective. And, he is right, Coyote *does* wait for all of us, if JW> we are unwary enough to not keep a look out for where we are going... I have been meaning to read Hillerman, as I have had a fascination with Native Americans since I was in high school (my great grandmother was part Native American - at least that came down in the family oral history). I recently picked up a book (non-mystery) called "Solar Storms" by Linda Hogan. It is a novel about five generations of Native American women in the Boundary Waters area (Canada/Minnesota). I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but Publisher's Weekly gave it an exemplary review. As for mysteries, I'm reading "Guilty as Sin" by Tami Hoag. Decided I had better read it while "Night Sins" was still fresh in my mind, as it is a continuation of the story. "Night Sins" is a 2-part mini-series on one of the networks next Sunday and Tuesday. ... The first Morse TV shows were quite good, but there's now a different writer who just can't capture Morse's irascible personality. Many of the TV shows are not based on Dexter's novels, but are "based on characters created by Dexter." That weakens the TV shows in my estimation. I also enjoy PRIME SUSPECT. Tony Hillerman's books come close, he was brought up with Dineh as well as Anglos. Will Henry also comes close, although I do not entirely know his background. If you know of any published fiction by an Origional American, I would love to read it. Meanwhile, I almost envy you. You have all of T. Hillerman's books to look forward to. I heartly recommend "Coyote Waits" "Thief of Time" and "Sacred Clowns." The only one of his I didn't like was "Finding Moon", which is the only one of his not set in the Four Corners area. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0Z1 * Origin: Mr Zip "Home of Aunt Gabby Echo" (1:123/17) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 244 MYSTERY Ref: E2T00008 Date: 02/19/97 From: POLLY FITT-JONES Time: 08:30pm \/To: FRED RUNK (Read 5 times) Subj: Inspector Morse Hello Fred...
