FM> Hi. Yes, I do write under my own name. My real name is Maliha Aqeel. FM> My book is called, "Brenda Morgan in Misconception", hence the handle. FM> I've written eight books so far in the series, but getting them FM> published is a long process. Hello Brenda: What a beautiful name. It's very lyrical. My goodness, you are a prolific writer. I understand how difficult it is to get a publisher interested in your work. Been there, done that. Several times. (Smile). Don't suppose there are many publishing houses in the Persian Gulf. FM> You know something, it's an interesting plot. I hope you do get it FM> published, I'd love to read it. Thank you for the kind words. It's been a labor of love with me. All I can do is hope a publisher will love it too. If it ever sees the light of day, will send you an autographed copy. How about that? Your series sounds interesting too. Many mystery writers do a series. Sue Grafton being among my favorites. Get caught up with Kinsey Milhone and her antics. She is an old friend and one can't help but finding oneself rooting for her. What a gal. Surely, your protaganist can become as popular. Finding the market is the hard part. But don't give up. It will happen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. FM> Actually, it has happened to me. I found myself falling in love with FM> my main character's best friend. I based him on what every girl wants, FM> and at one point I found it hard to detach myself. I found it hard to keep from making Aaron (the brother of my protagonist) the main character in my book. He's tall, red headed and freckle faced, with an Irish wit that won't quit. Think I may have based him on what I would like a brother to be if I had one. FM> Thanks. By the way, do you know any good publishers in the States. I FM> didn't quite don the list of the three I approached, but the US is a FM> big place, right? Yes, the US is a big place and I will look in my Writer's Market to see if I can come up with some publishers you might approach and get back to you. I noticed you also correspond in the Writing Conference. Some of the people who participate there could help you. Maybe getting an agent (if you don't have one) could be of assistance there. Just a suggestion. Now, to stay on topic, I just picked up James Patterson's Along Came a Spider. Can't wait to get into it. But if it's as scary as his other books, will have to sleep with the lights on. (G). Isn't that the sign of a good writer? Well, I will stay in touch with you and let you know what I find out about a possible place to get your books published here. I Want to read them. My very best to you. Not only that, but the simple truth is, when I decide I'm sick of an author and want to unload the collection(like PD James for instance), I'm likely to take it to the shop that pays a bit more. The one that pays under 5 cents on the dollar, then turns around and sells them at half the cover price gets no more of my books. Ah, this is not a type of used book store I patronize much: the kind that sells only paperbacks. The regular UBSs I patronize are pretty uniform: half price, with a minimum of 75 cents to a dollar (some have a higher minimum for SF). -- ___ __ david.chessler@mix.cpcug.org david.chessler@neteast.com d_)--/d chessler@capaccess.org chessler@trinitydc.edu ...
