JM>Greetings, JM>A friend of mine wants to know what order Margery Allingham's _Campion_ JM>series should be read in. We'd appreciate info on publication order, plus JM>whether they should be read in pub-date-order or some other way. JM>Apparently a lot of the modern reprints have been re-copyrighted, so the JM>original pub dates have been obscured. JM>Thanks in advance for any info. By memory, I believe that _The Black Dudley Mystery_ is the first. Margery Allingham wrote that she was considerably annoyed by this vapid, extra character named Campion that kept intruding on her nicely ploted story line. Now if you'd asked for one of the authors I don't collect, who's even more prolific, like Ed McBain, I wouldn't have volunteered at all. Same for Simenon, even though I do read him. ;) I used the more recetn edition of my list book for that list, which had more details on the reprints and omnibus editions. Even so, I found I have a book on my shelf called Mr Campion's Lucky Day, which is actually a very recent reprint of The Allingham Minibus. The publishers are at it again. Luckily, I didn't have that already, since I never made an effort to collect the short stories. I started reading it, but found I still don't care for ss, so I put it down and started _Now Let's Talk of Graves_, by Sara Shankman. ...
