How KW> come? I thought it was KW> very well done. I thought the book had a number of problems. The most basic for me was the fact that the characters were all out of their jusidictions. I just couldn't swallow the whole FBI task force idea. Add to that the somewhat goofy storyline and it just turned me off. Now, that's not to say that it was a bad book. I certainly finished it in good time, but I did think it was her weakest effort so far. I haven't read Potter's Field yet. --- Maximus/2 3.00 * Origin: The Clubhouse/T.O.T.T. Actually I MA> picture him looking like the author and I think he's pretty good MA> looking. The cover only shows his face, I'd like to see a full-length MA> picture of him. I've done that, too. In fact, I've done that with other authors. I picture Sue Grafton's protagonist, Kinsey to look a lot like the picture on the book jacket. Oddly enough, I saw Jonathan Kellerman on television about a week ago. It was a year-old rerun of the show Politically Incorrect. His hair was kind of long, which surprised me. MA> The book takes place on a southeast island. I guess one of the things MA> I enjoy about his books is the urban setting. Plus Milo was only MA> featured in a few phone conversations. I like the rapport he and Alex MA> have. Let me know what you think of the book after you're done. Well, first I'll have to get around to buying it. Right now, I'm depending on the library as my only reading source. My financial situation is rather strained due to some unexpected medical bills. But I'll catch up eventually. Of course, by the time I do, it's likely to be available at the library. That's probably just as well because I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed in this one. I'm not crazy about "exotic" locales. Plus, like you, I enjoy his friendship with Milo. MA> I'll have to check and see if his wife Faye has a new one out. I believe, after trying two of her books, they're not for me. MA> I also need to put John Sandford's latest on reserve at the library. MA> I'm almost finished with Stephen Whites's first book. Have you read MA> him? He writes very much like Kellerman I think. I'm not familiar with Sandford or White. If you think White compares favorably to Jonathan Kellerman, I'll put that on my library list. Thanks! Given > how vastly one person's tastes and perceptions can differ > from another's, filmmakers seem destined to disappoint more > people (who read the book) than they are going to please. Well, I just had this very experience - although I had been forwarned. Went to see "Heaven's Prisoners" based on James Lee Burke's book. He may well be my very favorite mystery writer - his books just ooze atmosphere and passion and oh, lots of other wonderful things. I knew the movie had not been favorably received, and trust me - it's with good reason. Alex Baldwin is terribly miscast, as is Mary Stuart Masterson and the whole (long) middle of the movie is totally flat. The only interesting thing about the movie was the location which was pretty accurate, but without any of the flavor that fills the books. > I do like to watch movies, but with one exception, I have yet > to see one compare favorably with the book it was adapted from. > The exception, for me, is Gone With The Wind. Hmm...I've seen quite a few movies that I think were better than the books. "Silence of the Lambs" leaps to mind. Of course there have been far more disappointments. --- msged 2.05 * Origin: 1:109/253 Dinah's Scrabblemania (1:109/253)
