WRONG! No one made that claim. The claim is, with some considerations, increasing class size can have benefits that outweigh the disadvantages. MP> You must remember MP> that amphitheater teaching as at an university is not going MP> to work at the third grade. The limit of class size is probably the point where there is significant loss of ability to keep the attention of the students. This is largely a function of teaching style and discipline. For example, throw uniforms on the students and you've increased the maximum feasible class size. MP> If a 'voucher school' were to fold for whatever reason, the MP> kids enrolled would be tossed out on the street. The MP> paraents would have to find another school which had the MP> space AND desire to accept the kid. I seriously doubt there would be a problem of schools folding in the middle of a school year. I certainly haven't seen such a thing be a problem with the private schools we now have. MP> That's why so many farmers and MP> ranchers are Republicans, they LIKE there government MP> subsidies. Thanks for the laugh, as if Democrats aren't the larger source of subsidies. ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: Get All Your Fido Here! telnet://docsplace.dynip.com (1:3603/140) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: F3L00008 Date: 03/15/98 From: ANDREW CUMMINS Time: 12:13pm \/To: PETER BRADIE (Read 0 times) Subj: VOUCHERS -=> Quoting Peter Bradie to Bob Klahn <=- CD>> The average cost of public school pupil education is $6630 in CD>> the US, Catholic schools average is $2178, nonreligious CD>> private schools is $2915. A voucher should be more than ample. BK> Well, how about we just give the private schools that $2915. PB> What's wrong with giving each school child a voucher of $6630 for PB> tuition for the year? And let the parents decide where they'd like PB> their children to go to school? That sum covers everything for the PB> year. Ever do the math? An average class size of 30 would bring just a hair under 200,000 bucks, with $6630 vouchers! Five-thousand buck vouchers should be plenty to give teachers nice raises and pay for everything else. Return the savings to the taxpayers. BTW, I'm sorry that I couldn't figure out that nonsense from the other poster about how the public would have less interest in education if we had a voucher system. But, with a voucher system expect a dramatic increase in private and business contributions to schools. ___ Blue Wave/QWK v2.12 --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0 * Origin: Get All Your Fido Here! telnet://docsplace.dynip.com (1:3603/140) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: F3L00009 Date: 03/13/98 From: ANDREW CUMMINS Time: 10:31pm \/To: PETER BRADIE (Read 0 times) Subj: WOD - easily winnable -=> Quoting Peter Bradie to Day Brown <=- PB> Actually, Day, you wouldn't have to make them legal. Living in Rural Florida is like turning back time a bit -- There are always fund raisers, dances, rodeos and weddings -- the weddings are all day (or all night) affairs -- ALL are invited -- young, old, and inbetween. It's a gala affair that everyone will talk about for a long time. 'XTRAORDINARY CARRIAGE SERVICE has been hired for one of these wedding affairs ...... we took a ride up to the small town of Moore Haven (about 20 miles north of LaBelle) to see where we would have to go -- where we could park our trailers etc .... when we stopped to ask directions, the people in town just shook their heads knowingly ..... everyone is excited about this wedding .... I think everyone in town has been invited. The ceremony is at the Baptist Church -- after which we will pick up the "happy couple" and carrige ride them to the reception (about 1 1/2 miles away). The reception will be a HUGE event (outdoors) with "crackers" cooking steaks in big grills .... then there will be fireworks ...... and THEN, the groom as hired a helicopter to wisk the bride and groom away on their honeymoon. other than the helicopter, this is the way weddings have been put on around here or a long time). It's always a BIG party -- "gala event" ...... people coming from miles around to join in the fun. I'm really glad that we've been accepted into this because it'll be something that will be talked about for a long ime to come ..... People work hard around here ...... most are poor -- some are "rich" in land etc ... most work very hard just to keep their heads above water ..... BUT, when it comes to something like this, everyone puts their heads together and works together so that a little "fun" can be had. I think most of American has forgotten this type of living ..... --- * Origin: Home of Mr X's 'XTRAORDINARY CARRIAGE SERVICES! Really been pretty today -- first thing this morning we went up to Charlotte County with some friends of ours to look at a horse (Standard Bred like Cinnimon) and 2-wheel cart ..... NICE setup ...... the 2-wheel medal art had lights, leather rolloed and pleated seats (it was a 2-seater -- show quality type cart) the cart needed a little work but basically wasn't in too bad a shape. The cart is black -- pin-strpied ...... needed some really good cleaning ...... big wheels like on our carriage (rubber). One of the shafts was broken off -- but right at the end up front -- I think that could be fixed .. The harness was in pretty good shape but REALLY needed some oil ..... it didn't have any padding on the chest piece and the saddle part was like what have for SEDONA which I put a "saddle pad" thing under for her. Leather didn't look too bad for being left out in the weather. The horse -- well, he's a STANDARDBRED - Black as coal and gentle as everything ..... he did a little spooky jump from time to time but I think working him he'd turn out to be a pretty good horse for that cart ..... he's suppose to be 11 yrs old - negative coggins ..... was VERY patient while I harnessed him up ..... stood very still. Barbara (our friend here in LaBelle) offered them $1500 for the entire ig .. the people took it (they had been asking $2500). I, myself, think that he cart alone was worth the $2500 but I didn't say anything as there were a few repairs that needed to be done. The people who had this cart and horse owned it for about 6 months -- they had NO idea how to hitch everything up. *I* was the one to did the harnessing up and they stood there and said "Oh, so THAT's how that goes" ..... You could tell that they never drove the horse as they didn't have the first idea of how to do anything with it. Why they urchased him in the first place not knowing anything about carts is beyond me I truely think that Barbara & Chuck have made a good purchase -- in fact, I'm kinda' sorry I didn't see it first . Barbara & Chuck are novice drivers ..... they're about our age -- ask if they could call on us to help them along -- we said OK COURSE . Mabye she'll be ready for that charity horse show up in Bartow, FL in September -- and, if she's NOT ready, maybe *I* can borrow the cart So, that was our morning ...... spent it -- wherelse -- but with horses and horsey stuff . --- * Origin: Home of Mr X's 'XTRAORDINARY CARRIAGE SERVICES!
