Good grief, Jean! Glad everything turned out okay in the end. I have to tell you a story, though (forgive me for going off-topic, Bob). A friend of mine called me yesterday to report that one of his cats had gone missing Friday night. Now you should know that there is an older female cat in the househould, and the two young'uns are from the humane society, and new to the househould (they've had them a couple of months, I think). The little ones just hit that transition a couple of weeks ago where they stopped being KITTENS and are now CATS (behaviorally speaking). The older cat is in the habit of going with walks in the neighborhood with her owner (yes, like a dog -- I've never seen anything like it but they tell me it's so). Aside from that, she sticks around her own yard, pretty much. Well, the little ones, seeing the older cat going for a walk with Mom, decided that this was a cool thing and wanted to get in on the act, so they've been strolling around the neighborhood a little, Mom and the three cats. That's the setup, now back to our story. Friday night my friends went out to dinner, and when they got out, one of the little ones was missing. They checked all the vets, pounds, put up posters in the neighborhood, etc. Sunday they got a call from some girls that live across the main drag and three blocks down the street. The little stinker had decided to go out on the town, check out the action, and wandered into their house in the middle of a party on Friday night. Since he had found himself a houseful of girls and was getting petted all the time, he was in no hurry to go home, and the girls thought he was cute, so they just kept him. But when they saw the poster, they called and my friend found out where he had been. (And he was still in no great hurry to come home....) Maybe there was something in the air last Friday. Hi Jean, Don't be too hard on yourself, there are probably many carting fanciers around who have had a close encounter such as that. I used to have a 2-year old gelding I simply loved and I also loved spectating the carting classes at the A-rated shows, which led to my desire for he and I to learn to cart (for pleasure of course) (smile!). We were in training approximately 60 days and the training did wonders for both of us in many ways. Anyway my X provided a training cart (Xmas present) for us and 1 evening we decided to test it out. My gelding was accustomed to all the apparatus including blinders, but had never heard the sounds the fenders began making, and consequently he was skiddish, so my X felt he should test-drive me just to get him used to the rattling. Well, 15 seconds after they began my X bailed out because the cart was about to tip over, and consequently my gelding was "on his own". Long and short, when we found him he had flipped the cart over himself and he was laying in a mound of dirt on his side. I worried that surely he must be severely injured, but I spoke calmly to him (scared as I was), and he allowed me to unstrap the contraption and he stood up. My X was miffed at him, so I hurried my boy away who only sustained a little lameness for 1 day. After it was over, I fell apart. But he and my X survived and we later went on to cart in some amateur classes and earned a few blues. He's the colt who was born on Mother's Day, and he's 14 years old and is owned by a couple who got their 1st horse at age 50. He is their baby! This gelding and I had some real learning experiences. Boy the stuff they go thru for us!
