Absolutely! Good call as a matter of fact. Those of us that don't use the stuff tend to forget about this kind of thing. > I think the worst problem with leccy fences is when something breaks. I thought the "Queen" was too reserved to 'frolic' ...... nope -- ya'll should have see her last night. X was in the lead (he's slowing taking his place as head of the herd )..... he looked SO regal when he would stop and stand (looked like pictures of the stallion at the head of the herd -- standing there listening -- standing there in the stance of protecting his herd.) Anyway ...... he started to run ...... then he slowed down and looked ack to see where the others were ...... Sham was second but a little ways behind ...... she started jumping - head bowed -- then a jump and a little kick ...... looked like Mary's little lamb -- or, better yet, Moo-Moo when se was kipping along. Then X would stop -- sham would stop several feet behind him -- he would give her a "THAT LOOK look" and she would step back several paces away from X .... then X would start off trotting again and Sham would start the "frolicing" bit again .... Sham was acting like a 2 yr old ..... SEDONA and Tuffy were way back -- but when X and Sham finally went into their stalls, SEDONA started trotting really fast towards the barn and Tuffy had to go into a gallap to keep up with her. I notice more and more X is taking over as BOSS HORSE .... he really IS starting to look Regal and Elegant!! --- * Origin: Home of Mr X's 'XTRAORDINARY CARRIAGE SERVICES! A job for two SA> people, that. Find something to stand on while you work... be it a phone book or a specially made stoolish platform. then you'll be able to touch the wire without much of a shock, OR eliminate the shock by having a wooden box sort of a platform with a peice of metal or metal mesh or chickenwire ect across the top, something that conducts electricity. Use two peices of wire with a hook at the end, both going to the mesh you stand on, on the top of the box. step onto the box and put a hook on the wire on one side of where you work and a hook on the other side of where you work. Then you can work to your hearts content on the live fence without problems. ------electric fence wire *=break you want to fix _ hook hook _ | |-T---------------*---------T---------------| |------ | | | | | | | | | / | | | | |wire / | | | | \ / | | fence | | | /wire | | post | | | / | | | | \ / | | | | \ / | | | | *=============* chickenwire across top | | [_____________] | | | | [_____________] old wooden | | | | [_____________] fruit box | | This will let you fix the fence without turning it off, and without getting even a tingle from the fence. the hooks can be made from coathanger wire 6 inches or more for the hook handle on each. Any electrical cable is ok, something salvaged from an old appliance is fine, strip off the ends and wind the bare copper around the coathanger wire and wrap it up in tape to keep it on and make it smooth. the bare copper wire at the other end wraps around a corner of the chicken wire maybe a nail or two to hold it on. The coathanger wire hooks can be as big as you want, I suggest a foot or so of wire for each one, the electrical wire shouldn't really be long enough to touch the ground when the hooks are on the fence, but if it still has its plastic sheath where it touches the ground it'll be ok. You won't get any shock if you follow this procedure.. 1) find a break, then put the box down where you can stand on it and lean a little and fix the break. 2) stand on the box without touching the fence hold your tools between your knees or between your feet or in your pockets. 3) pick up both hooks by the bottom of the handles. 4) with both feet on the box, put the hooks onto the fence both sides of where you want to work. 5) you can now work on the fence. Don't reach for tools ect that are on the ground, don't step off the box, you'll get a shock from either one. Only use tools that are on the box with you or in your pockets. 6) to get off the box, take the hooks off using the handles and you can now step down, or reach for tools/wire etc on the ground. Youll find you can work on the fence without a single tingle and you won't need to walk back and forth endlessly... you can just grab the box, tools and go. Our FIRST time out with Mr X and our new carriage was a HUGE success!! e were in the LIGHT UP LABELLE Christmas Parade tonight. Mr X was EXCELLENT -- all the kids wanted to come over and pet him (no problem -- he LOVES it!!) ...... the older adults watching the parade stood p and clapped when we went by. It was chilly -- I thought maybe X would be full of vim and vinegar -- he wasn't -- he was calm as all get out -- did this like he'd been doing it all his life !! We decorated the carriage up with RED Christmas Bows - and I put some Red Bows in X's Mane and on his bridle ..... he DID look elegant indeed . Now, you have to picture this parade -- there was the Middle School Band -- the High School Band -- The Womens Club officials in a Convertible -- Several Boy and Girl Scout troups -- the Lawn Mower Racing Club (and umpteen riding lawn mowers -- everyone was dressed up), Santa Claus and the American Legion guys - a HUGE Garbage Truck decorated up with Christmas Lights (it WAS clever but ONLY in LaBelle would there be a decorated up Garbage Truck ) -- there was a float (by who I don't know) that had "dancing reindeers" on it -- Several kids decorated up their bikes ....... and then US at the tail end of the parade and we had the SWAMP CABBAGE QUEEN riding in our carriage. EVERYONE in LaBelle showed up to watch the Christmas parade -- I can't believe that many people actually came. It was chilly (but not as cold as I thought it would be) ..... the temps started to really drop as the sun went down. All in all we had a good time ....... it gave us exposure for our arriage business and I made a few contacts too. Two weeks from yesterday (on Dec 18th) we have that 3 hour carriage job for the Open House in LaBelle ..... we were hired for 3 hours to take people for carriage rides ...... it oughtta' be fun. --- * Origin: Home of Mr X's 'XTRAORDINARY CARRIAGE SERVICES!
