The vet called us, we rang around and found somebody who would take him (the ILPH) but not for a couple of days, so we went out and got him. Bugger to load, though mostly sound. Beats me why someone would buy a colt foal like that (cost quite a bit, too) then get rid of him for the cost of an operation. Foal cost around a 1000, but the operation would only cost a couple of hundred. Weird. Simon Avery ... SCAN V2.00 The [Alex] Virus was found. Delete? We have never had excellent results with this type of fencing, I often thought it was because there was the odd break in the tape and it had been knotted to keep the circuit continuous. The Bug cost about 70 ukp's and is only about a year old, the nearer you are to the bug, the greater the zap!! the fence is about 75 yards long and the zap is only minimal at the greatest distance. Should the machine be placed in the middle of the fence or as we have it, at one end?? We have two, one here and the other is loaned out to a young girl and is kept at a stables in the New Forest. I'm quite pleased with that one because he is well loved and has plenty of exercise. However, everyone is aware that if we thought that the horse was not being properly looked after, then he would be immediately brought home. We see him quite often because the Owner of the stables is a personal friend. It does seem strange to buy a horse for 1000 and then baulk at 200 for the operation. It cost me 70 for an operation for my retriever.......so I would have said that they were getting a good deal considering the animal concerned. Ah Well!! What's this listserver thing I saw in someone's post? It's an email server.. that that means is that people communicate by email instead of a newsgroup. It was the solution to the hassles and headaches of dealing with the not so nice people in some of the more popular newsgroups.. So the posts in this echo are being sent out to a list server and the reply's are being posted in here. Will answer the other later. Got to run. I do always flush a cut or abrasion with cold water.......then pour on peroxide (per vets instructions) and then use the Scarlot Oil. The vet explained it like putting iodine (or something like that) on a cut for a human. Usually just have to spray it on that first time (depending on the severity of the wound) .... BUT, wash/flush with water ntil it's healed. >> Oh yea ...... got that too ..... AND, have ready to use pen AND the >> kind you have to mix. Yep ....... got a few 20cc syringes and BUNCHES of 10cc's and plenty of 20-23 gauge needles of inch and one half inch (never can tell so I try and keep prepared). >> Got it ........ but I don't know if I would hear it from the barn to >> the house if it went off ..... Very true ...... can't quite afford the later though . I thought of something else we have in our "emergency kit" at the barn ...... a rectal thermonater. That was something I never thought of having until X got sick last May ..... The vet chided me for not having one on hand (well, I never ad to use it before )......I went right out and bought one then so it's there now ;-) I also have a stethoscope (that I got when baby was sick). OUr vet showed me where to listen for 'gut sounds' and where and how to listen to the heartbeat ...... very interesting! --- * Origin: Home of Mr X's 'XTRAORDINARY CARRIAGE SERVICES! I've seen mixed results with electrified wire.. when horses get spooked and they have no where to go.. they go right through the wire.. electrified or not. > SA> Had an emergancy call today; a six month old Shire was due to > SA> be put down as he had a hernia and the owner wouldn't pay for > SA> it to be treated. Nice to see someone talking about pounds for a change.. :) As far as spending money for babies goes.. I can't even remember what I paid for my breeding.. I can tell you I spent well over your 1000 pounds (sorry don't have a key for the "pound" in the US) in dealing with some sporatic bouts if illness since she had such a poor IGg.
