Same old, same old. Work continues to be crazy. I still get EQUUS, Mike Plumb's Horse Journal, Practical Horseman, Dressage Today and Horseplay to get my horse fix. Plus the gazillion catalogs that come as the result of subscribing to all these things. Every week I take the new arrivals up to the laundry room and read while my clothes are in the wash, wishing I was out riding instead. EQUUS did a lead article a couple of issues ago (#238) about how to cope with losing your horses, and they're still getting letters from readers who have lost their horses. One I particularly remember from last month's issue came from a woman who was helped by having a printed article she could give to her family and friends who didn't understand why she was as upset as she was. It made me glad that we could be here for you and Meg. How sad it must be to lose your horse and not have *anybody* you know to talk to about it that would understand. This month's EQUUS (241) is the 20th anniversary issue, and has a big look back on the first 20 years, with lots of sidebars containing biographies of the contributors and a nice photo spread of the staff members' horses who have been used as models over the years. The October EQUUS (240) had another lead article on John Lyons. And boy, you can really tell Christmas is coming -- I just got a holiday catalog from Tack in the Box, and one came last week from Back in the Saddle, and I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting about. --- Opus-CBCS 1.73a * Origin: Sci-Fido II, World's Oldest SF BBS, Berkeley, CA (1:161/84.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: EF300001 Date: 10/30/97 From: JEAN PROPHET Time: 07:05pm \/To: BOB KOHL (Read 0 times) Subj: Linked?? >> Linked?? I just drool and drool, then file them in the "recycling" file! Some really nice stuff out there, but the extras ain't in my Christmas budget (g). See tons of things I'd love to get for my students, but will settle for something smaller. Think I'll give them pictures of themselves at their last demo in nice little horsey frames (if I can find some that aren't too costly!). Glad to see you're keeping track of the horseworld still! I think you and Richard should take a trip east, so I can get you up on Shiloh! Fid's still lame...laminitis is gone, but we have residual bruising and maybe some calcification along her sesamoid bone from what the vet thinks is a previous injury. Trying this and that, but nothing seems to work. Did a Lyme test on her the other day as well as a blood test for pituitary function...they're staring to think that her weight problem may be organic...and might have been a cause of the laminitis this spring. At this point, I'm just kinda dazedly following the vet's and farrier's suggestions.....and not feeling really confident with anything they have to say....verrrrry frustrating! Such a nice little horse, and such a waste not to be able to keep her training going. Ugh! Don't you love the cover of the 20th Anniversary Equus? Nice graphic design!
