Anyone ever have a horse they had trouble with keeping on shoes?? I'm having a terrible time with SEDONA. She keeps throwing the shoe on the right front -- this is 3 times now. I've had the vet check her -- they say she's OK - I've had teh blacksmith check her -- HE says no problem. BUT, *I* think that there MUST be a reason why she always throws the shoe on her right front leg. When we got her and brought her home, the next day she had lost that shoe ....... Now, I thought it might have been just because it was over due for he farrier to come -- I had no idea when she had been shod (and I had forgotten to ask) so I didn't think much about it. Our farrier came out the very next day and put NEW shoes on her all the way around. Within a few weeks she had lost that right front shoe (Now, that SHOULD have set me to thinking but it didn't). We had the farrier back out to re-do it. On the farrier's next visit (he comes her on a regular basis every 6 weeks) she had lost that same shoe ........ Now, with the new shoes he put on her a couple of weeks ago, she lost that same shoe AGAIN. He was back yesterday afternoon to put it back on (we found that shoe this time so he re-did it and put it back on). She's not overstepping ....... when the shoes are on she seems OK ..... vet can't find anything wrong ...... anyone else have a problem like this?? --- * Origin: Jean's Trick Horses (Or is that TRICKY??) Good idea ...... Mr X is the best one I have for standing still without a halter and not being tied. I can walk him anywhere with just my hand on his neck ..... he comes when I call him and lowers his head for me to put my hand on his neck (of course he's been here since he was a baby ). The one that leaned around and "nipped" me on the hinny was my new horse, SEDONA ...... we are still in the "get acquainted" part . She's good -- and I dearly love her to death but I shouldn't expect the same kind of 'loyality' and behavorir I get from X ...... at least not yet. She KNOWS what's she's suppose to do (or not do) ..... it's a matter of her learning what's expected of her here ..... --- * Origin: Home of Mr X's 'XTRAORDINARY CARRIAGE SERVICES! Ypur piece of mind about your horse is obviously most important to you.. so while I can't tell you what to do, I personally would not be happy with this kind of thing... and it really also depends on the contract you've signed with the trainers for both boarding and training. There's vast differences in the way people do things Erica. > An incident like this happened before and, it > was a friends horse who broke his leg and she didn't find out until 2 > days later when she went up to ride him. I just don't > think that this was a fair and wise decision to make about not calling > me. PLEASE HELP!!! If you want to stay there, then I'd suggest that you arrange an addendum to any boarding agreement you have with these people stating that you wish to be informed immediately should your horse become sick or show signs of illness. You might want to get it notarized.
