Well got one better.. haven't been to the stable except once all week since I was so sick. Turned her out for about 20 minuntes today to let her burn off some steam. I wasn't happy since someone was supposed to be turned her out and it sure doesn't look like that was happening.. Anyway.. when I was done, I gave her a snack as usual that then brough her out a bit later to saddle up. Didn't have much energy for anything fancy so we just kinda pooped around for awhile. Dead calm from a young horse that's been in the stall all week. :) BK --- DB A3000sl/001347 * Origin: * Conniption BBS * one fit at a time (1:102/861) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: EEP00004 Date: 10/19/97 From: BOB KOHL Time: 01:03am \/To: JEAN PROPHET (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Snap, Snap, SNAP >> Don't forget to just go out and spend some time with her.. >> don't have to work, don't have to do anything except spend >> some quiet time together.. maybe some scratching.. it works >> wonders with mares. :) > Very day when I get home from work I "play/mess" with her -- and, she > KNOWS it's "her" time too . She gets rinsed off daily ...... then we > "talk", scratch etc. Not only good for her -- but good theraphy for ME > too Well the term "play" with a horse can be very deceptive to someone that doesn't know any better. In most cases it's really not wise to actually "play" with horses since it may well change the way they look at you in the heirarchy and can possibly be dangerous. I've also seen one to many youngins ruined by people that played with them. Both Tush and CJ have a "cue" when it's time to really play. They are also very aware and/or reminded if they cross the line. The know full well when the "play" time is over. >> Well wait till it settles down to just the one little pop.. >> then work on that. > I thought we had it conquered (more or less) .... then yesterday I > was cleaning out her feet -- she was really being good -- until she > snapped ..... my behind got in the way (I was cleaning out her left front > hoof) and the rest is history. I don't think she really meant to nip me You hip should be in line with her leg when you're cleaned a front hoof.. it should be no where near their face. It also is safer in case this way in case the horse does something unexpected. > .... I think she was snapping in her usual manner and my backside was too > close. I SHOULD have had her on the cross tie but didn't ..... she got a > good POP on her shoulder and she after that she didn't even offer to turn > her head again that afternoon, nor did she snap, snap, snappy anymore > either. If the horse ever makes contact with your body with her teeth, you need to over react for 3 seconds immediately after it happens.. in other words left her know beyond a shadow of a doubt that was unacceptable including hitting her (except in the face or neck). after the 3 seconds, stop and go back to what you were doing as if nothing happened. >> Yep, depends on how much she wants to please you.. I was on the back of the pickup Saturday strapping the carriage down. I was about to get out and had gotten one leg over the side and almost on the running board. My foot slipped off t the running board and my other foor got caught in the strap holding the cart down. There I hung doing the splits and twisting the $*** out of my left nee in the process. I thought it was going to be worse than it seemed to be at the time. I can at least still walk on it gently. -> Site moved this weekend (fingers crossed)... back on Email soon. Over the weekend I went to a convention for the TV shows Hercules and Xena. During the "stump the experts" contest, where the fans are invited to ask trivia questions of the producers and other staff on the show, one fan asked what breed Xena's horse Argo is. I was very cross because the panel didn't know, and when the fan was challenged to give the right answer, said "Palomino". Unfortunately I didn't remember the real answer myself, or I would have bellowed it out from the back of the hall. (I think Tilly is the New Zealand equivalent of a Aussie Brumby, but I'm not sure.) Do you know off-hand which of the down-under breeds show Palomino coloring? At any rate, the next time I go, I'm going to look it up and be prepared. ;-) It was very fun to see the little kids asking Renee O'Connor (who plays Gabrielle) what it was like to work with Argo -- she was surprised at first, because I'm sure she was expecting the name of one of her human colleagues to be at the end of the question, and had to shift gears completely in order to answer the question. Apparently Tilly's winter coat is very pale compared to the summer coat. How much color variation do you see in CJ and Tush? --- Opus-CBCS 1.73a * Origin: Sci-Fido II, World's Oldest SF BBS, Berkeley, CA (1:161/84.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: EER00000 Date: 10/21/97 From: BOB KOHL Time: 04:53am \/To: MIKE MAY (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: assorted > -> Be nice.. you're older! ;) > Yeah don't I know it this morning too.
