OK, well I can't speak for open shows.. but I know that while there's no rules on wearing gloves, all the participants are subject to trends. I do wear gloves when riding English flatwork.. but never in Western. >> BTW.. the EPM mare was put down today. Frankly and as much >> as I hate to say this.. I feel it was the best way to go. You've never seen a mare go into a frenzied spin in a stall that didn't stop until she slammed into something.. like her head into the pipe or a feeder.. First time I saw this happen.. she stopped herself by hitting her head on the feeder (moved out of the stall the next day) and knocked herself so hard she went down on her knees. Nope, she's just a pleasure.. and we're going through a mild bout of "refusal" that the youngins will go through. Just got through it tonight. I didn't even really want to ride by the time I got ready to.. I'd been helping someone else get over a problem for most of the day.. and when I did.. it was fairly cool and very damp.. and I expected a slightly high kid.. she wasn't and off we went to just poop around for a bit.. and end with a check ride in the arena to make sure we'd solved the problem we were having. Will be back to going up to a lope shortly.. since the kids often start cross cueing from trot to lope when you start loping. >> The lope was no more then about 6-10 strides either way... >> got to give her some time to work up to it. Nope. staying true to form. Closed over.. just need time to make sure it's healed enough. I've already had her out and walked her a bit and let her eat some grass.. She's high.. and it's been so cool that I've gone to putting the day sheet on at night. She's got a couple of edema's (expected) in her udders from not working... and lives to eat now. ;) I'm really not apying her enough attention.. but she's not as affectionate when she's like this. She also knew that the mare next to her was put down and was "down" for a day. I sat in her stall for awhile that day. I have to tell you that CJ and Tush are like night and day.. Tush is quiet and very level headed most of the time... and VERY lazy! ;) BK --- DB A3000sl/001347 * Origin: * Conniption BBS * one fit at a time (1:102/861) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: EEB00007 Date: 10/06/97 From: BOB KOHL Time: 04:17am \/To: MEG ALFONI (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Palominos > BK :>I had her in the public arena the other day with 5 or 6 > BK :>other > BK :>horses working.. some rail work.. some reining.. some > BK :>english flat work. > BK :>She handled it pretty well. :) > Good experience for her. Are you kidding me.. at one point we had to ride inbetween to riders with no more then about 4 feet on either side for the other riders. That was enough and I didn't want her watching the reining. This kid learns FAST from watching other horses! The paint mare that I used to pony Tush with was in the arena the other day and doing a very slow jog.. so I stopped Tush and had her watch.
