I think most of us here are, ummmmm, mid-lifers ........I rode as a youngster but after my teenage years didn't get on another horse until about 7 yrs ago. I now have a nice little carriage service company with a 6yr Gray Arabian (we raised and trained him) and just acquired another 7yr Saddlebred mare who pulls also ..... Along with them, we have a pony (10.1 hands tall) who pulls a cart (long story but we trained him too), a 22yr old Anglo-Arabian mare and a psycopathic Paint named PATTI (we affectionally call her PSYCOPAT ). There's never a dull moment at our barn ..... Sure glad you joined our zany little group -- everyone here is extremely nice ..... I've certainly learned a lot from all of them!!! --- * Origin: Home of Mr X's 'XTRAORDINARY CARRIAGE SERVICES! I received a letter from the lady I purchased SEDONA from - in that letter she enclosed the Registration Papers for SEDONA - I had no idea she even had registration papers ..... It says SEDONA's registered name is S F SHOW GIRL .... SIRE: QUICK WORK out of NOBLE VICTOR out of FOLLOW UP DAM: NOBLE NICKI out of UP HIGH Since I don't know anything about SADDLEBRED horses I have no idea if this is a good line or not -- AND, since I didn't even know that any papers exsisted it really doesn't matter to me really -- but I wondered if any of ya'll knew anything about the above horses ... There are LOTS >of simply WONDERFUL people here for sure!! ... >........ So glad that you joined our little group!!! Oh, I have been reading the conference for more than two years, I know this is a good crew. And I have been most concerned for you when Baby died, and happy that you found Sedona. At one time, years ago, I bought a Saddlebred mare, with an Arab- sired filly at her side. The mare was nice and smooth, but refused to be caught in the pasture and then would not settle to any nice pace. She was also _not_ in foal to the beautiful Morgan, as she was supposed to, so I sold her. Had I had some instruction or more experience, I might have done better with her. But at least the filly turned out well, despite my lack of skill I was able to ride her with a halter only. Wonder, if she is still alive, would be about 24 years old now... When she left, my 10-years of no riding began. If this reply is late, sorry, seems our BBS got the messages late, somehow, and might have missed some. AND BTW, next week is vacation time, we may go to Spruce Woods provincial park, to do some riding in a really beautiful spot. Will come back to Equus next Friday! True, but when I had horses at home on an acreage, taking care of them took all the spare time, and I got no riding done - had a full time job and drove cab nights to make ends meet, too. So now I am glad that Shemmeek is boarded out, and I can ride instead of worry about having enough feed at home, keeping water tank unfrozen, mending fences, hauling manure, trimming hooves, giving shots, fixing barn, and all the rest. I am thinking it would be fun to bring him home into the city for a day and put up the electric fence tape around the front yard, just for a lark; but it will be winter before I get silly enough to try it. Just as well! I am not sure what the City bylaws have to say about it, either. Well, that's what SEDONA does (her only vice though so I shouldn't complain) ...... hopefully I can break her of it as I do NOT cinch up very tight (learned that by training young horses)......she STILL snap, snap, snaps though .....
