Out of all the horses I've ridden or trained, Mr X is the smartest .... he really IS quiet (in his own Arab way Meg fell in love with him at the first ..... it took me a little while b ut he definately has my heart too. He was easy to train (he rides AND pulls a carriage too) ..... he's completely kid safe ... he's a lover (but is terribly jealous of my new horse SEDONA). I've had Quarter horses (my favorite horse was a HUGE 16.1 hand tall Dun Quarter Horse I called "Baby" - she passed away last year in June) ...... Paint horse (who is totally a fruitcake), an Anglo-Arabian (who is 22 yrs old), a pony who pulls a cart and now this new Saddlebred horse, SEDONA. She's really quite the character ...... MUCH more "expressive" as you put it than any of the rest here. I always did say that my 'group' smiled .... well, she smiles and does a lot of other face 'contortions' depending on what is happening around her ...... she laughs (silently) .... I'm also amazed at the range of whinnies and nickers she has -- the rest of my 'herd' nickers when I go out to the barn - but it's more like a "hurry up, mom", or a soft "blowing, blubbering" type nicker if they are happy to see me ...... OR, a high pitched whinny if they are displeased with something ..... SEDONA has 4 times that many nickers and whinnies but never seems to use the "hurry up" type instead she uses a "I'm so happy to SEE you" type ..... X will kick the food dish .. He's been terribly aggressive towards SEDONA ...... Sham has already accepted that she's here to stay ...... Sham pins her ears back at SEDONA but doesn't charge nor kick at her anymore. X charges her (SEDONA) ..... bites her, kicks at her if he can. This is to totally out of character for him as he usually loves everyone adn everything (other horses AND people). The one Saddlebred mare I was riding for a bit this year was settling down really nice and starting to work very nicely. The owner (an ex-Saddlebred show trainer), didn't like that.. so I stopped riding her.
