I'm slightly new here too...We have a few horses..two saddlebreds and a half-arab. Wing's Destiny of Belevedere (Desi) and Ace's Golden Aire (Airee) are our saddlebreds...and TJ Satin Drift (Satin) is our half-arab. Satty is black and 15 hands his mother was Morgan type and he does everything and well mind you.. I rode him and Desi in a clinic today...I was surprised to see esi could bend so much....not like Satin but he's getting there... Took Desi on the trail ride at the end of the clinic...never seen a horse so trail ignorant..he insisted on sniffing the thorns..... thats a preppy saddlebred for you..he's really a ring horse though not much gets to him...:)-Sih telnet://thorny.ml.org --- Nice computers don't go down. --- Virtual Advanced Ver 2 for DOS * Origin: Thorny's BBS, Lawrence, Kansas USA, (913) 832-2011 (1:299/121) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: ECU00010 Date: 08/23/97 From: KENDA MILLER Time: 10:10pm \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Introduction Hey! my name is Kenda aka Sih. I'm from Lawrence, Kansas. We have three horses. Though I must admit, thier noy as young as the horses everyone on here seems to have...There good horses...well broke horses that don't run away with me except one occasionally...I might not have the best equitation in my condition you can't exactly (grin), but I have a good enough seat to stay on and use my aides....even if I always sit crooked, don't have much choice, luckily our horses compensate for me pretty good (I told you they were good horses :)) Nice meetin you guys. -Sih telnet://thorny.ml.org --- WHat do you call a man in a meat grinder? I just found almost all of our tack shop receipts while moving things into a new filing cabinet last month. Still, adding up the expenses that you quoted, a board bill of $300/month where we still cover farrier, vet and supplement expenses over and above the board costs...we're helping to pay their mortgage. :-) Thanks for your reply! -= John Rooker * NC2613 * jrooker@wnybbs.net =- ... __________/oo\__________ "Is it OK to come out yet?" --- Blue Wave/386 v2.30 * Origin: The Door Into Summer..Rochester, NY (716) 461-3971 (1:2613/229) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 243 HORSES Ref: ECV00000 Date: 08/25/97 From: BOB KOHL Time: 04:55am \/To: MEG ALFONI (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Palominos > BK :>Tush has developed a habit where she likes to wrestle with > BK :>her saddle pad for a bit before it goes on her back. I bite my lip on a regular basis.. in fact I was trying to describe to someone why I absolutely could not tolerate someone at the stable (this gal is a head case and an accident waiting to happen).. I tried to explain that aside from person differences and/or a personality clash, that she's made me comprimise my ethics.. In other words if her filly cast as she does regularly I would not go in to uncast the filly.. or if her mare was turned out and seriously hurt itself.. I would not lend a hand to help. Simple issue: If anything happened where this gal could find the option to blame it on me or anyone else for that matter, she would and then she'd turn around and sue.. I find it very difficult to deal with this.. but I also have a responsibility to my gals and I'm not going to give them up just because of a nut case. Let me tell you that there's been at least one incident where I was sorely tempted to floor this gal.. and I've rescued her from at least one situation where a stud was going to seriously hurt her more then he had already. Sigh... Annie moved along faster then Tush has/is.. but that's because Tush is lazier then Annie (I want her this way) and she's also smarter then Annie was... and Annie was not stupid! Smart horses can be tricky.. and Tush is a *very* bright baby. :) >> flexing for the turn instead of dropping her shoulder. We >> then quit. My sessions with Tush are getting longer depending on what we're doing. If I feel the need to push her past a point of resistance.. we're doing ok on this.. but I have to keep the arena time in close check to make sure she's not going to start resisting.. at the same time I'm trying to combine things like doing arena work with riding with another horse... so she doesn't have full attention on our work.. and won't sour.. ;) Aside from that last night we did wander off the property for a bit.. not that far since it's on cement (she's bare foot) and we picked up a bottle cap in one of her hoofs.. Today she was full of beans and so we didn't head off the property at all. Heck she didn't even want to trot today. Also over coming a problem that built up while I was riding a tad off.. and that's the shoulder dropping thing.
